I see the RAL code for Matra 313 grey is RAL7031 but does anyone have the code for the red? Probably same as the general red marking color used in Germany in the 40īs and 50īs, I recall it too has a RAL code. |
I suspect it might be RAL 3001 "Signal Red", it is what I have used and looks correct against originals. Let's see if we can confirm it! |

Didn't see this one (202j) in the Tool Listing.
Anybody know what it's for?
Update: some sort of thrust pad for removal of something related to front brake (not sure if for car or bus)
I don't have a pic of the reverse, but it has a little square part so something doesn't move when you use it.
Looks like it has one more screw / square part.... than 202i

Wow, never seen a 202J, not in my special service tool books either. I have almost all of the other various 202 thrust plates and accessories (the 202 head unit as well as 202A, B, C, D, F, I, K, M, Nt, P and S), but not that "J" one. I hope you figure that one out!

Anybody have a catalog to see what a 3013 is for?
It sorta looks like a mini version of the 273 bushing drifts.
Shown next to 10/13 wrench for scale (~5" long).

I saw a post earlier in this thread on colors. Someone posted the green/gray is RAL7031. Has that been confirmed?
For the red, what is the correct color? _________________ www.vwnos.com [email protected]

I have this - it works pretty well for the oil cooler nuts, although obviously you have to guess on how much torque you are applying.

It works very well. I've tried to put those oil cooler nuts on so many times. When this was available to me I grabbed it. It works great. It's always good to put a paper towel over the engine cylinders so that if anything drops it gets caught. _________________ www.vwnos.com [email protected]

Getting all of the old paint off what the only big task. I ended up soaking it in acetone to get the paint off followed by a glass bead media blast. _________________ www.vwnos.com [email protected]

I might also have some spare parts for your VW352(early version for 002, there are two types) which is missing the shackle to hold a bus trans.

Wish I'd seen this earlier! PM me if you're offer still stands.
Thank you for the paint code information. Ive recently gone back to sorting my matra stuff out so I'll be getting more paint mixed soon.
Also working on a matra VW 205b for my boss at the moment. This example is in a bad way. They need to be nickel plated again, the brass pieces are rough, and I need to make a handle, and power cord.
I've only found 1 image online showing the tool. Does anyone have one? Or can explain why you'd need to heat pistons? I've used matra VW ring compressors they work perfectly, so the heating idea baffles me a bit.
Heres the only other image i could find, notice how smooth and round the brass heated part is
I have a fair amount of work ahead of me. _________________ Collector of all things Volkswagen, Hazet and Matra.

Wow have a look at this in the classified section!
NOS 313 and yoke. So cool

Probably only 1990s in terms of age, the sticker style issues with the tool is still in use by volkswagen with their matra and VAS tooling _________________ Collector of all things Volkswagen, Hazet and Matra.

Sometimes feel like I'm talking to myself on this thread.
Anywho, finally after nearly 5 years of ownership/ procrastination, my matra 308 is free from the 'C' channel someone thought needed to be welded to it.
Here is is when I first bought it, and took off most of the blue paint.
Notice the 'C' channel welded to the side.
The original Matra grey, as well as this piece of stencil work poked out from under the blue. (I took measurement to replicate it later on).
And now all these years later finally.
More blue paint, nothing hidden within the 30 year old cavity. Bit of a shame.
Here's how it stands currently. (HAHAHA get it?)
Does anyone know how I can remove the remaining welded sections of 'C' channel? I'm trying not to ruin the original steel, and given the welded bit is nearly 10mm thick, a grinder may not be the most efficient way to do it. But at this point a whole lotta grinding disks might be my only option. Ideally I need a way to cut it down, and finish off with the grinder. _________________ Collector of all things Volkswagen, Hazet and Matra.

I thought it would be fun/useful to start modeling some of my Matra/other make OG VW dealership tools in CAD. Maybe if there is enough interest in these some small batches could get quoted.
Started with some suspension drifts.
From Left to Right:
US/VW768
US/VW767
VW273B
VW273A
VW273D
Planning to keep going through the collection and 'digitizing' as I find time. |

Fantastic idea/ work.
Even if you just managed to create technical drawings, at least those with lathe abilities and free time could make some. _________________ Collector of all things Volkswagen, Hazet and Matra.

yea, figured the documentation effort is at least sort of worthwhile. More just an excuse to get better with CAD stuff. Drawings take forever. Models don't take as long.
Here the first part of VW297 measured off an original 'made in germany' example.

Love your work, I know how much extra goes into the drawings. I was referring to tools a lot more plain and simple compared with what you've already 3d modelled.
Package of more Matra stuff arrived today.
From the top down;
Matra VW-277 Open End Wrench 41 mm
For loosening and tightening the steering worm adjusting screw lock nut
Matra VW-113/2 Open End Wrench 27 mm, cranked
For adjusting
- front wheel bearings,
- steering worm adjusting sleeve
Matra VW-113/1 Open End Wrenches 27 mm
For adjusting
- front wheel bearings,
- steering worm adjusting sleeve,
For holding the pulley on the generator (with the straight type wrench)
Matra VW-113 SAME AS ABOVE
Matra VW-113B/2 Open End Wrench 24 mm, cranked
For adjusting front wheel bearings
Matra VW 113B/1 Open End Wrenches 24 mm
For adjusting front wheel bearings
So nearly a full set of front wheel bearing spanners.
Shame 2 had been roughly modified. Still I like owning tools I actually use. _________________ Collector of all things Volkswagen, Hazet and Matra.
