Hey guys I bought a 1979 Bay and it has a Camper interior as far as a the closet the over head storage and the fold out bed. But this is where its a little weird it has a middle seat and sliding windows. Does anyone have any idea if this a a normal set up?

I'm towing it home in the morning and getting all the junk out of it and see If I can find any clues. Is it the color of the cabinets that make you think its 73 or old interior? |

I think the drum kit came as stock that year. But seriously folks.....I agree that the westy interior looks like it is from an early bus. I say that because it looks like the cabinets that are stock in my '71. _________________ If you haven't bled on them, you haven't worked on them.

The color and layout of the cabinets. In later campers the closet is where the spare tire is on the drivers side. The wood grain finish is darker.
Our 79 started life as a sunroof transporter, and some PO put in the closet, cooler cabinet, bed seat and sink cabinet with table base and a home made table. _________________ my59: Well son, my grandfather died before I got to drive it, so does that answer your question?
our79: sunroof bus w/camper interior and 2.0 FI
Other:'12 Jetta, '77 Benz 300D, and a 74 MG Midget. |

If you over tighten the Oil Strainer bolt, you will brake the engine case!
There is a Oil strainer in there.
TORQUE THE STRAINER BOLT TO NO MORE THAN 9 FT. LBS. |

I think I see vinyl headliner beside the drums, looks to me like a stationwagon with a junkyard find 68-71 bed and closet installed.
Nothing wrong with that aside from the closet blind spot, makes a very functional vehicle for all sorts of activities. Nice find, and welcome!
The stamped metal M plate located on top of the LH fresh air duct just inboard of the LF signal light will clear up any confusion, it's impossible to see unless you stick a camera up in there behind the speedo or make a rubbing of it. _________________ Rust NEVER sleeps and stock never goes out of style.

Here's a picture of my first bus in 1988 and a picture of my last bus in 2000 I had to sell when my son was born. I'm super excited to get busy. I've had over 20 Air cooled VW's so I know enough to get in trouble. But Ive never had a 2.0 so I have a little learning curve. I'm just hoping this old body can take it. I plan on filming my whole adventure. My youtube Channel is DoubleODude so be sure to follow along.

Nice bus!
It's definitely a regular passenger model that someone threw part of an early bay camper kit into. Matters not, it's a good find and will be fun to get back on the road again. |
