There's a bit more to it than that. Supers differ from standard Beetles in that the front suspension and steering loads are taken by the body, not the floorpan. Therefore the connection between the Super body and the floorpan had to be substantially strengthened at the front to maintain structural integrity.
That's why the condition of the bulkhead / firewall, internal reinforcement brackets (shown in photos above) and external reinforcement brackets (right angle plates at the front of the bulkhead) is so critical. _________________ '75 1303 (current project) owned since 1989!

According to Paruzzi, VW of Mexico has stopped production of the rear quarter panels for late-model Beetles, and the VEWIB wholesaler no longer offers them. A few shops still have stock, so if you need them, then get them while you can. _________________ 1973 green Super Beetle |

Is it fair to assume these brackets go inside the firewall, giving the heater channel end something to bolt into? |
Those brackets tie in the super's frame that the steering box/idler arm bolt onto ,to the napoleons hat. The 22 gauge wheel housing part they attach to is silly. They appear to be slightly better than nothing in my opinion. _________________ My beetle is not competing with your beetle. I have the yellow beetle in my town.
