Black Mamba shifter adjustment

I purchase the Black Mamba shifter for my 1961 dune buggy. I am having an issue with adjustment and need some help. going into Reverse with the reverse lock pulled it is hard to get into reverse. it will go just not smoothly! and from reverse to 1st gear the reverse lock is still engaged and doesn't disengage until you go into 3rd gear. I have adjusted the base plate everyway imaginable. the shift rod bushing is new and the coupler is tight at the tranny. I'm hoping someone out there can help with this issue. it will go into all 4 gears good just have to hold the reverse lock up for the first two!
