Working, in my mind, on a bug project with widened fenders for dually wheels. Thinking of having them made from stock four lug wheels using stock tires and custom centers retaining the bolt pattern and possibly the ability to keep the stock hubcap.
I saw this pic and it started my mind working. I would like to hear others ideas on this project, this wheel setup and pros/cons to this idea.

Tried them before for an off road bug just like your pictures but it's hard on the wheel bearings and trailing arms... but with a set of chains they will go through some really wet stuff till you hit something.

| Photo reminds me of VWs in the dirt in Owosso, MI; early 1970's from an article in Hot Rod magazine's "Volkswagen" special edition from around that time. Yes, I realize these Beetles are on a paved street. |

If the geometry stays the same, IE the center of the dual wheels stays centered with the hub, would it still be hard on the bearings and trailing arms? |

Maybe wider arms and heavier offset wheels wouldn't stress the bearings as much. I'd love to see it done

| Back in `73, I saw a Porsche 911 with duallys on all four. They were Mags with Avon tires mounted and the car had flaired fenders. He said it corners so sharp at high speed that his wife wont ride in it anymore after he took her for a ride and showed her. It looked great. |

| when i was a kid we (my older brother) took some stock rims and made a set fo dulie rims for the highschool shop teachers suzuki single cab.( might of been a hino) we were in okinawi japan.he wanted more load carrying capisity. and he got it!!! he loved them. there are some 1 peice aluminum wheels out for some car (volvo comes to mind) my brother had a set a few years ago, probably still has them. those would be nice for something like that, but I prefer the tires I have on my bug.19.5x33" mickey thompson super pro..street pro? crap Im too old to remember whats on the side of the dam tires!!! I also run the hoosier 16x31 dirt track tires, there a lot cheeper.and oh so good inn the rain. |
