Hello, can anyone give me an accurate date for these two different styled shrouds?
I am building a year correct (ish... my case is a few months out but best I could get) engine for a '54, and a vintage speed engine on which the shroud will be cut and made into a doghouse.
Question is, are either of these correct for a '54? or neither? or are they both junk and suitable for cutting up?
Shroud 1, no indent
Shroud 2, with indent

Hi,
The shroud n1 is earlier than the n2, as far as I know the n1 fits from 54 beetles, don't know exactly when it changed for n2, I'd say 57 when bigger air cleaner has arrived.
Please correct me if I'm wrong

Neither is correct. 54 did not have indent or wiring retaining tabs on driver's side of shroud. |

hmmm... ok would that be the only difference? If I take off the wiring tabs it would be good on a '54 engine?
the other one (with the indent) I am going to cut up as this is a late model.
thanks for the input _________________ 1954 L227 Type 113

#2 appears to be an early 40hp (34hp Euro) stale-air shroud. You have the 3 large holes near the bottom for the spark plug retainers, which were first utilized for the 1960 36hp shroud. But there is no hole for the choke cable which a 36hp shroud would still have, implying automatic (electric) choke. That makes it a '61 or '62. |
