Maybe I dreamed it but I just saw a Subaru commercial on TV where a new car and a T3 DOKA are side by side talking and the Subaru is making fun of the DOKA for not having a backup camera.
I was thinking the DOKA should have told the Subaru he was going to eat his engine or something... |
Not dreaming, I saw that one too! Good to see a Vanagon on the TV, for sure! _________________ '84 Vanagon GL 1.9 WBX

Looks kinda like my highschool girlfriend, grown up.
As teens, she was a dead ringer for Mariel Hemingway...
She wouldn't sleep in the VW though (I tried!). _________________ 1990 Feldjäger Syncro AAZ

No, my TV was not LeMonsbombed. I just spotted this in "The Package" with Gene Hackman and Tommy Lee Jones. Any movie set in Germany in the '80s is bound to have at least one T3 in it. This one appeared during the first five minutes, and the action shifted Stateside shortly thereafter.

There is a documentary on Netflix now called "What the Health" about the benefits of becoming Vegan. (I watched while snacking on beef jerky).
The documentarian's "Superblue" Vanagon is featured prominently at 5:55. His name is Kip Anderson. He's from San Francisco.
(Sorry, Netflix won't let me take a screengrab.) _________________ 91 Westy.

CBS Evening News just now featured a house for sale that straddles the U.S./Canada border and one shot showed a Westy in the background at the nearby Border Patrol station.
Hey, a twofer! I didn't notice the reflection!

"S is for Stanley" is a documentary about Stanley Kubrick. On Netflix now. 15 minutes in, you'll see two Vanagons he owned. _________________ 91 Westy.

Good find! Here's a snip from the trailer. It's a RHD van.

I haven't posted here in a while, but I saw that too. I have been trying to have fun with it over the last few months.
The posts usually start off inspirational/poetic, then run off the rails with tie in to a mash of product placements. Sometimes it spirals into frustration because the van is broken, sometimes I'm waiting for parts in a Walmart parking lot...

Kid was playing an iPad game (Extreme Car Driving Simulator), and suddenly I hear "I see Otto (name of our van)!" Sure enough ... there is Otto - roof carrier and all. Crazy.

My guess is that even this "German" scene is filmed i the US.
A real german police Transporter would probably not have Carat bumpers, and would definitely not have the red side markers.
Same movie goof as in "Angles and Demons". _________________ 1991 VW Multivan syncro 1,9 TD |

I was waiting for someone to mention the opening scene of Atomic Blonde.
Can't wait any longer.
So now I've mentioned it. _________________ One of these days I'm gonna settle down,
