I guess the inference is that he hurt his arm that night and was never the same even though he had other injury issues later that season

Debatable whether it was their best (Revolver? White Album? Abbey Road?), but it was (one of?) the first concept albums, and it really flowed from song to song. Start it at any song, and you HAVE to play it through. Nobody makes "albums" any more, they make songs. I miss those older days when it was a craft, not a formula.

Damn, 50 years. To cope with this, I need a little help from my friends.

Don't worry KTPhil it's Getting Better Wink

I knew someone would disagree with me, just A Day in the Life I guess. I think the flowing of songs is why I love it so much. I think I read somewhere that it was the first record to not have any gaps on the vinyl between songs because they wanted you to listen to the whole thing as a flow.

I was and still am a Beatles fan. In my opinion to get a full appreciation and understanding of Sgt. Peppers you have to understand 1967 in general and what was going on. It is said Pet Sounds by Brian Wilson had influenced the making of Sgt. Peppers and Brian Wilson upon hearing what the Beatles had achieved cried, but it also inspired him to write better songs. In rankings top albums that year were Sgt Pepper,Velvet Underground,The Doors, Jimi Hendrix, Forever Changes, Magical Mystery Tour, Pink Floyd, Leonard Cohen, Cream. This a virtual who's who of music, so much talent. Public opinion was switching sides with support for the Viet Nam war, the summer of love was cranking up in the Haight. All day yesterday on NPR they ran out takes of the Sgt Peppers sessions and previewed the remix now available. People of a certain age are interested but the vast majority here probably don't give a shit and that's fine. The major takeaway is back then the artists had more creative control vs the carefully scripted corporate bullshit you hear now. As with most other things the music biz now has less choices and fewer labels and has become corporatized. Just my opinion.

Interesting read. Definitely leaves more questions than answers to something that may never be 100% clear.

Harry Chapin, a folk-rock composer and performer active in many charitable causes, was killed on this date in 1981 when the car he was driving was hit from behind by a tractor-trailer on the Long Island Expressway in Jericho, L.I. He was 38 years old.

Interesting, he was driving a 1975 VW Rabbit.

Just for clarification, he apparently suffered a heart attack and that is what killed him. They could not determine if the attack happened before or after the crash, but he was driving very erratically in the moments leading up to it. I was a kid when this happened, but I recall my dad talking about it. Dad was a state trooper at the time.

On this day in 1865 Dr. Joseph Lister revolutionized medicine by being the first to use antiseptics in surgery. Listerine is named after him as is listeria & listerella.

40 years ago today the king (Elvis) fell off his throne at his home in Memphis and left us at the age of 42. This year for the first time ever you must pay to attend the candlelight vigil held outside Graceland.
