Unfortunately it doesn't look like they have any. The $422 is apparently for the 11' 6" awning (the other sizes don't show a price when you click on them) But even with the 11.5 footer, when you try to add it to your cart, it doesn't work. It also says Free Shipping not valid on freight orders.

Thanks for the tip, though. I'm always looking for gear at half price or so. Very Happy

Here a link to a vid of the "Kwik Kampa" an oz tent trailer.sold by Stockman.
these guys sell every part of these as a modular upgrade.
What really interested me is the awning, I can see that attached to a westy top and being deployed after the roof is raised.
What an awsome amount of sheltered space that would make.

Very clever idea! ^^^^

I would opt for real tent poles or metal electrical conduit......

One word of caution...... I've seen PVC shatter under stress, and when it shatters you do NOT want to be in the trajectory of those razor sharp daggers that fly from the shattered pipe!

(Not my image, simply an image I found that clearly illustrates in what manner PVC shatters! )

It is nice to have a real awning that just rolls out and works properly. It is hard to justify the high cost of the Fiamma but most things on the van are like that. A fast set up and excellent design mean you will use it more.. And you can add a screen room and transform your camping site.

I'm making a DIYer now but I'll only keep it if it works as well as a real awning. The poles I am using for the legs are extension painting poles made by Shur-Line that collapse to 5' and extend to 9' and are twist lock.

Just giving a nod to the ezy awning. Just got it and set it up. Pretty awesome. I have been on the fence for years on what awning/side tent to get. Finally pulled the trigger on the supersize ezy awning with walls. So glad I did! Basically doubles your useable foot print. While not as heavy duty as the add aroom side tent BD offers, not as bulky either. Two bags is it and does not weigh much. Took about 14 minutes to set up (solo) and 11 to break down (also solo) and that was the first time. All in $300 with shipping cant beat that for a functional side tent. Thanks Ron for offering this option

Vintage Awnings by Kristi has been working VW camper owners to create great awnings for those who want a vintage look. She uses Sunbrella fabric in a variety of patterns and has developed an optional arched top using tent shock poles. I will report back when I receive mine. https://www.facebook.com/vintagetrailerawnings/

Alu cab awning is probably the coolest awning that I have ever seen. A buddy of mine has one on his truck and this thing is bomber. Wraps around the passenger side and rear hatch area. Self supporting, with legs if needed, opens and closes in seconds. Big price tag but worth it. Need to figure out how to install it on a westy

This is the closest thing I've seen to our Fancher awning, though we have four legs for big wind.

Not a FBer, anyone know another way to get ahold of the maker?

Thanks.

I have the ARB awning and it does the job. I bought it on sale from auto-anything and then didn't use it for a few months. So I don't think it's a necessity, but I do like having it.

The van came with a bus depot awning but I don't even want to try to put it together, and it's not a small thing to carry around. Cool product though, and I could see it being worth the setup if I were parked for a few days. The jack point mounts are neat. It's for sale if anyone is interested.

Now, part of what follows is just vanity; form over function Smile

My van is brown (beige over assuan). The grey cover of the ARB doesn't match, but when the awning is extended, the canopy is beige and it's all good.

Front Runner sells, what looks like, an ARB or Whoever-Manufactures-Them-For-Everyone awning with a LIGHT BROWN cover.

They also sell a neat swing mount, which I hadn't seen before, but it requires their roof rack, and like most of the stuff they sell, it's not cheap, but it's well-engineered and well-made.

The Fox Wing style awnings are really cool, but I don't see them being that useful on a vanagon. You can't open the hatch if it's swung around the back. But with the low overhang in the front, it might be nice to have shade there?

About security - I used vanagonlife brackets to mount the awning on Thule cross bars. I bought torx bolts to fix those to the bars, even though the other side is just a regular nut. Then I found some 'real' security bolts with an odd shaped keyed bit to fix the awning to the brackets. It's just more hassle than it's worth. If I lose that key... What then? It would take 5 minutes with a hack saw to just bypass all that and just cut through the cross bars anyway...

I'm in a nicer part of the city and I've had BBS RS center caps stolen (wheels had locks though!), so I'm more careful when it comes to stuff that's easy to steal than I used to be, but I don't see the need for a lot of security when it comes to awnings, because the vast majority of thieves have no idea.

Having said that - when I get a Fiamma, I'm locking that shit down.

With this: https://www.google.com/search?hl=en&tbm=isch&a...6aO82qjNVs

or something else. That's all I have on my VanLife LED mounts. Not too secure if you've got one of those heads.

Tamper proof torx are fairly common, I actually carry those bits in my tool box.

Something like these screws that only grip the screw driver in one direction are more "the ticket".
They also have "sex bolts" so there is nothing protruding to grip.

https://www.boltdepot.com/Sex_bolts.aspx?gclid=EAI...gIeePD_BwE

https://www.partitionsandstalls.com/ss-s-nut-3-4-7...gLMhvD_BwE

Removal requires a special tool that I've seen no one carrying..... ever!

Haven't been on Samba for a while. I see someone got the email address to you, E1. Here's the awning I purchased from Kristi.
