I bought a 1971 a while back and I'm currently busy fixing her up.
When I bought her she was completely wrapped:
Engine was in a state. Running 100% but looked like a dog's breakfast:
So the work on the engine started:
And I started peeling all the wrapping of and stripping the beetle.
After many hours the beetle was stripped:
And the motor looked a lot prettier .....
And the beetle is currently being stripped down to metal and dents are removed.

Just found your thread. Lots to see! Where to begin? The motor is stunning... but then the body work, Wow. Black has to be impossible but your roof, you could go swimming in your roof. The red is fantastic. Looks like you used the Wolfsburg emblem as inspiration for your color theme and it is turning out fantastic. I like those earlier tail lights, smooth. The PO triangle wheels are really curious aren't they? Never saw those before. You sure are moving quickly on this really nice build. _________________ 1966 Sportsmobile Camper https://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=...mp;start=0

Thanks.
You are right. Inspiration is the Wolfsburg emblem. There will only be wolfsburg emplems on the car.
Not to worry - I bought it with the triangle wheels - they are going as soon as the spray painting is done. |

Today my beetle got her front fenders back. Was a bit of mission to get them back on for some reason - my guess is because my beetle shed some weight after kilo's of bondo was removed.
Her bonnet was in such a bad state that it would've taken hours and hours to fix.
Rust holes, big dents that were bondo'd. Friend of mine was kind enough to donate me a replacement. So in general it was a good day beetle wise.
Plan for tomorrow is to put the rear fenders on and start work on the replacement bonnet.

Rear fenders fitted and there was some progress on the new hood. I hope all the body parts will be back on the beetle this time next week. Then the work on the interior will start.

Got my car back from the spray painter and I must say he did a very good job.
Today I installed the new wheels and the chrome beading on the red and black split.

Your car looks great. I like the innovation of using the body trim to break up the black / red color scheme.
I'll follow along as this car progresses.
Nice work. _________________ I have learned over the years.

So I got a bit of rust surprise as soon I started removing the tar boards underneath the driver seat. Cleaned the rust up with a grinder, treated it with rustoleum and fiberglassed the holes.
The rest of the pan looks solid except for this spot.

Wow I just checked in here to see what's going on and your car is looking great!
Those wheels are fantastic. I've never seen them before. Very clean and very aggressive style. I like that you're not following any trends and you're making this thing fresh.
You know you're going to have to turn the title over to your driver there as soon as she's ready. You might as well start thinking about your next project now it won't be long. I've got one I find sitting behind the wheel of mine all the time now too and I know it's either going to be handed over or I'll have to get something else in the driveway for that one to work on _________________ 1966 Sportsmobile Camper https://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=...mp;start=0

Thanks sir ...
I looked your build thread and saw that you did some proper research on tire sizes ... I didn't
My fronts are 7j mags with 195/60's and I couldn't turn
So I had to get my tires exchanged (lucky that my supplier did exchange them for me) to 175, 50's
Now she can turn.
Rears have 195/50's onj 8j mags |

So I guess it is time for a bit of an update. I had all my local beetle buddies over to assist me with installing the engine and getting her firing up. (Bribed them with beer )
Engine in:
I also installed some sound deadening. I went with the roof repair products because of budget and not enough evidence found that it doesn't work.
Also started with my carpets. I went over to my local ceramic tile shop and bought some edge trim that is normally used on stairs. Took some modification but now I have some door sills for beetle on a budget
