New here, but not to Eurovan. Bought a '99 GLS in 2000 and it's now pretty much our RV. Just for traveling, not for sleeping and living. Does anyone have any comments about the Knucklebone? I'm over getting the spare out from underneath.

That carrier is certainly more accessible than the under-vehicle OEM carrier, but realistically how often do you find yourself having to use the spare? I know I'll regret posting this the first time I have to crawl under my van, at night, in the rain, after hitting some debris, but I only seem to experience punctures once every ten years or so at this point.

Another thing to consider is if you utilize your hitch for other accessories, such as bike racks or storage trays.

You could likely find a donut from a late model Audi for temporary use and keep it in the van. Most of them have a 100 load rating which is plenty and there are several sizes I'm sure you could find one that would work for short term use. I have an A3 one that would work for my 205-65-15 size.

Not that I'd want to go tooling across the country on one but to get across town no problem.

Detours has shut down at the moment so you'll have to find a used one.
