I think I read something here about some fellows using 944 rear suspensions and brakes on their Buggys. Or was I mistaken - I can't find it now.
If so, how about the front brakes from the same car? How about 924 parts as you could retain the 4 bolt wheel pattern? |

I am putting 944 Turbo brakes on my KickOut SS project. I would think 944 non Turbo would be similar. The rear bolts on except for an adapter for the e brake cable. In the front you will need a new adapter for the caliper. I bought the package here on The Samba, the front wheel bearings that came with the kit are correct for the ball joint spindle. My previous buggy had early 911 brakes and that required a ton of fabrication. Tom _________________ Manxter #16, 1968 Meyers Manx & Kick-Out SS #16 (WIP)

The 924 14" wheels have a bolt pattern of 4x108 mm --- VW is 4x130 mm. _________________ CMC '57 Porsche Speedster Replica and Dolphin boat tailed full pan VW MOD-T Street Buggy |

944 100mm CVs and axles, stronger and more deflection than stock type 1

The heavy duty 944 cast aluminum IRS torsion bar end covers appear that they could also be trimmed down and used on a buggy

Thanks for the link didget69! Excellent info and from my own country to boot!
I am asking these questions because I am upgrading the engine on my buggy and am a strong believer that the first step in a power increase to a vehicle should be brakes and suspension. All very fine to be able to go like a bat out of Hades but if you can't stop or steer it then it could well be a one time ride!
I just found a 944 parts car too!! And get this - it comes with Fuchs!

I presently have a swing axle and am hoping to change that! Should be able to just cut the trailing arm brackets off the 944 and weld them on the swing axle torsion tubes. the donor 944 should have all the rest of the bits.
Then to change transaxles or convert this one to IRS. |

Are the 944 CVs the same as the Bus? |

That jig looks simple enough to make.
I wonder if the side covers and diff carrier off an auto stick shift tranny would fit the swing axle to convert it? |

... not sure where you are going in this comment. Are you talking about converting a SA trans to accept IRS CV axles?
Buy the jig - http://www.ebay.com/itm/IRS-PIVOT-JIG-SAND-RAIL-DU...1387301022
$90.00 & free shipping

Yes I am talking about using the side covers and diff carrier from a auto stick shift to convert my swing axle to an IRS. I will count the bolts on the two different side covers and see if that tells a story. I was just going to scrap the auto stick shift anyway.
The jigs do look like the way to go but I question quality when buying off fleebay, also there will be shipping charges to Canada + exchange on the dollar and import duty. Most likely more than double the price. I am thinking a piece of flat steel plate drilled to match all bolt holes and used with the 944 arms would be the same as a jig. Not? |

Just checked, there appears to be no interchangeability. |

Yes & No.
Porsche 924/944, VW 411/412, & VW type 181 thing use Type IV CV joints. They are both 100mm on the outside but different sized balls on the inside. The Type IV are slightly stronger, but for a dunebuggy it probably doesn't matter so the Bus are cheaper and much easier to get. Either will work.
Bus has 19mm balls. Type IV has 20mm balls _________________ 2017 Street Comp Champion - Thunder Valley Raceway Park - Noble, OK

The jig locates the semi-trailingarm pivot bolts in all three axes.
If the pivot bolt is mis-located/misaligned your rear camber and toe in will be off.
Its not something you can just bolt the trailing arm to the springplate and make a best guess
Find somebody in Canada with one and borrow/rent it |

You can also raise or lower the inboard bracket a small amount to set your car up for more or less camber for a lowered or raised car. Tom _________________ Manxter #16, 1968 Meyers Manx & Kick-Out SS #16 (WIP)
