I don't understand the issues with someone regularly asking about a car you have, if they know about it legitimately. Many of us have gotten cars that way. I have bought several cars by asking about them with some regularity, always politely, with no ill intent.

I have also tried to buy what would have been the PERFECT house for my family, but the seller sold it to his son instead. He told my wife he wished we would have gotten it, but family came first.

Depends .. on how regularly often they ask.. Confused

No harm in asking (or note on door) .. but.. then there's those who are down right repetitive annoying and that dont understand NO.. or in my latest case (and topic) .. No trespassing.

Its like the American Nose Pickers series.. .. Im sure they've been escorted off a property a few times..

Amazing how sometimes the no turns to maybe and then yes once real cash is offered..
VW buyers ..searchers.. still think they can get them out of a yard for 100 bucks..

Times have a changed.. .
I realized this once I was out of the hobby for about 15 years .. the $100 cars were now $1000.. in worse condition.. .. and part prices had multiplied...even the crap ones.

I only dole out my treasure hunting secrets in annual installments- so here's one for 2017: Ask the car's owner up front exactly how frequently they would tolerate your repeat requests. "Same time next year okay?" That sort of thing. When they've agreed up front, there's rarely a surprise a year later.

Where I grew up there was a junkyard that the owner painted "Stay the hell out" on a car hood at the road. When someone suggested that the high rate of illiteracy made it less useful, he edited it to say "Stay the hell out even if you can't read ".
