I've bought this on ebay:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/271390713260?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2649

And used this page to hack it:
http://www.1600i.de/1600i-elektronik/diagnosestecker/diagnosestecker.html
I cut one of the plugs in half (I believe it's the black one). That black plug only has to provide a + from battery power, and the other one is ground. The ground one I changed so I can ground it to the car body.
I modified the + one, and the wite plug to fit the 3 prong connector of the beetle.

I believe it worked (only tried once, and it was a while ago).

I plan to splice in the normal OBD plug instead of using this adapter.

But, you can do it the nice way to, and use a 3 prong male plug to create a adapter cable.
See this post from Garba on the VW part numbers you will need:

If you don't want to make one, I bought my adaptor from Manfred (www.1600i.de) for ~40 Euros when I first got my car. Antonio has them as well.

Talking to the owner of the Bug, he tells me someone has already changed the TPS, TB & air temperature sender.

When you change these on a VW ECU, do you have to calibrate them or are they plug +play? I know you would if it was an aftermarket ECU, but not worked on a VW ECU before.

The engine is poor to start / flat spot / stalls when coming down off idle.

Cheers

The control unit includes non-volatile memory for storing adaptation values matching the ECU to the car sensors, and for storing fault codes for diagnostics. The Digifant ECU communicates for adjustments and diagnostics. It is intended to use the VAG1552 or VAS5052 diagnostics tool used by VWoA dealerships. However, it does not use the now-standard 16 pin DLC connector as do US models, so it requires an adapter cable.

Any idea where the adapter cable etc etc is available to communicate with the ECU?

Thanks

To scan the mexican Sedan 1600i you will need:
a) Ross-Tech interface
b) Ross-Tech software (free download from their web site)
c) VW Sedan special adapter cable

I sell the genuine special VW adapter cable to scan the Sedan 1600i (1993-2004).

Hi, i have been searching with little success for a complete ACD engine to buy.
Would like complete, running condition with wiring harness and ecu.
Does anyone know of one or have leads?
Will need to be boxed and i can arrange shipping.
Any help appreciated.
