|
|
I have the opportunity to pick up an AEB but it was paired with an automatic transmission in the donor vehicle.
I will mate the AEB with a 4 speed Vanagon tranny at 50 deg. Diesel config.
So, is there any differences to the cranks ?
Will a pilot bearing fit the auto tranny hole ( I read there is a hole but not big enough maybe). I read that one crank is chambered or something at the flywheel end compared to the other.
If there is a difference, what would I have to do to use this motor ? It only has 82k miles on it.
I trust you guys here to provide some actual experience and not heresay
TIA ....

Theyre different. You would need to remove the crank and have it machined to fit a pilot bearing. Would be easier to find a manual aeb i would think _________________ 91 CARAT |

.... And I had just read postings on Audizine that said they needed to shave off the snout of the auto crankshaft and they were able to put a pilot bearing in to the shaft without issue. ?!?
Therefore.... I am hoping for someone who is intimate with these motors and swaps to verify because I can find many people on both sides of the fence on this.
All the AEBs I'm finding up here are well over 180,000 miles at the moment ... _________________ John.

Check out the audi performance bulids group on facebook. Ask your questions there. _________________ 91 CARAT |

Maybe this quote has your solution.

You can use the crank from the automatic very easily. You just need to pull out the pressed in bushing then use the pilot bearing made for the V6 passats (034 105 313 A).......

I can ask here though too if that's ok ? ....
I know Andrew Flint and others do a lot of this and since the swap is 50 degree style Vanagon it is way more relevant here.
So far I have also found that a shop has used an auto crank with a manual tranny but would need to mode the manual crank to work in an auto tranny. _________________ John.

BEAUTIFUL ! Thanks for that crazyvwman.
I hate to pull the trigger on the motor without hearing from a source that is not just speculation. There is so much difference between some motors that it was worth asking ...
Cheers. I'll eventually start a build process thread once things get into motion. Cheers. _________________ John.
