That's using your Noodle.
How is it holding up to the heat?

Ah... that's what those are for. I thought they were cut-to-length sex toys. Thanks for clearing this up!

Hmmmmm, a little short for my needs but I may give it a try, sorry, no pics though Wink

Nice work Carp, excellent solution for a roadside issue.

I've always been curious what type of folks hung out with Jay and Silent Bob, now I know.

Interesting quick fix!

Keep an eye on it and report the lifespqn.

Those pool noodles are actually the same material and production method as polyethylene foam pipe insulation.
The temp range should be in the 180°-200° F so its worth watching the section close to the exhaust.

The factory seal....from what I can tell....is made from a polyurethane foam. Those typically are good to about 250°-ish....and with the cast on smooth outer coating should be good to about 300°F max......which is why they eventually get baked near the exhaust.

You'll also have to ask the folks in the first three rows to move back! You know. Safety first!

I've used them to seal besides a WBX radiator (blasphemy I know) and they do shrink and deform with heat in that range. 190-240f

but for a emergency on the road fix it's great.

Be extra meticulous with the installation. I had the foam pipe insulation come loose and get sucked into the fan.

Same. The part of the noodle that was directly touching the radiator melted a bit but it did still seal.

Any big city should have a shop that specializes in foam products. I would think that silicone would do the trick and last for a very long time.

Yes.....foamed silicone....in the same shape as the noodles and pipe insulation is the perfect material....in a thick wall split or non split tube. It just a little hard to find in diameters over about 1.25". Its pricey....but probably worth it.

The last 1" OD X 1/2" ID foamed silicone tube I bought was about $8 a foot. Ray

I only recently got a "real" engine seal. I had a pool noodle for 5 years. The same pool noodle. It never melted or needed replaced that entire time...
