I'm in the process of stripping a bumper down and pounding out some dents that have collected thru the years. The overrider bow has numerous dents in it but I've not got a clue how to properly repair the overrider cause you can't just hammer\dolly it.
Any hints on how the pros restore a dinged up overrider? Is the idea to hit it with a torch and then cold water in the hopes it'll stretch back? Do I have to weld a nail onto it to create leverage to pull it back into shape? _________________ 1959 Type II Mango SO-23

Take it to a Chrome Shop and check out their equipment. Pay them to pound it out correctly while you watch at least this time. _________________ https://imgur.com/user/FisherSquareback/posts

Well, I took it to a chrome shop today to see if they could assist in correcting the dents in my rear bumper overriders. They wouldn't touch it and suggested buying a repo. Before I go that route, I'm going to give another shot myself at doing an option to weld on a nail and see if I can pull it out with some heat.

I'm guessing it is a painted bumper, right?
I would try drilling a small hole on the opposite side of the dent. Take a punch, round over the end, and tap the dent out from the other side. When you are done, weld up the hole.
This worked really well when I removed the flattened out seat frames, with a flat piece of stock for a punch.

I fixed a dented header tube that way once. Worked good and the welded up hole was on the back side out of sight.
