Hi I am new to The Samba and hope someone will be able to help me. I recently decided to work on my squareback that has been in the garage since 1986. My issue is with the front disc brake calipers....I am having difficulties finding replacement calipers...It seems like every company only sell calipers and rebuild kits up to 1971. What are my options with the front brakes ? can I use another years calipers? Any help would be greatly appreciated. |

This has been covered quite a bit lately...the late 71 to 73 Type 3's used a different caliper, which was also used on the Type 4 and Porsche 914. Parts are available to rebuild them, and Ray Greenwood has written a comprehensive how-to on rebuilding them. If you'd rather not do it yourself, Jim Adney can rebuild them very reasonably. You can reach him at [email protected]
And here's the official "How to get your fuel injected Type 3 running after it's been sitting" thread:
