I have updated my '66 squareback to a dual circuit master cylinder. I am curious to know if it will be necessary to adjust the length of the pedal pushrod. The current length is 145.4mm and I have read that the length should be 149.5 +/- .5mm. I also have a Bentley manual that says the length should be set as per a new pushrod to a length of 143.5mm. Brakes are a system I don't want to gamble with. Thanks for any insight. _________________ ...and progress is not intelligently planned... |

Ignore the length of the rod, and first adjust the pedal stop to get about 8-3/4" distance from the brake pedal tip to the bulkhead. Then adjust the rod, if necessary, to get 1mm clearance at the rod tip (about 1/4" at the pedal tip). After this in the future, you should leave the rod alone and if needed, adjust at the pedal stop.
Here's a tool, but the distance (a) is all we are seeking here:

Thanks for the info. I understand the 1mm play at the rod end and plunger which should be about .25" at the pedal. If the actual length of the rod isn't that important I'll go with that. _________________ ...and progress is not intelligently planned... |
