If you paint all four no one will know except the four assholes on the planet that look for that stuff at shows And that are into T3's |
LOL
I have a set of NOS front ones I am not gonna be the asshole to paint those LOL
At least its an option if all else fails!!! Mine are torn I guess since they have tape all over the edges on both sides!! I have a set of real nice ones in my squareback but those wouldn't fit right?? _________________ 62 Type 3 Notchback

We ll see I have some serious Type 3 hitters looking for them so hopefully a set will pop up somewhere! If not we can always go the painted route!!! _________________ 62 Type 3 Notchback

The sill plates look pretty cool...
Carpet is definitely quieter - seems like that would have been seen as an upgrade for the Type 3 at the time. |

It might just be the pic but that shift knob looks a bit pointy on top to me and the pinch welt also looks odd/different it's always cool to see the early/ proto type pictures I find slight differences/changes every time _________________ Wow look at that THAT'S A "SHOW CAR"!!

Looks like a 3 section speaker grille. That carpet could also be a highly textured rubber mat. Whatever it is it looks like it's all one piece. _________________ Немає виправдання для війни! Я з Україною.

Its been pointed out before. We are just revisiting it
Look at the sill plate cover? Yes the cone head shifter knob, the carpet mat, the white steering column, the continuous dash trim chrome strip under the door wrap arounds, it will have the clam shell door pockets.....other stuff too.
More carpet.
Still look like a mat?

So you wanna medal, or a chest to pin it on?
No, it doesn't look like a mat now. These obviously aren't all the same car, though.
It does bring up a point that I want to make though, and I'm going to pick on BerT3 because he should know better.
Those sort of trapezoidal brake/ clutch pedal pads with the straight across ribs that everyone tries to pass of as NOS Type 3? They're not Type 3- they're early Vanagon, and if memory serves, Dasher and Rabbit (Passat and Golf to Bertie) too. If they have a 32 part number... don't forget the Dasher was a Type 32. Type 3 ones would have had a 31 part number- if these hadn't been shared with Beetles.

Now go stand in the corner and think about what you did, Bert!
(NOTE: The ad doesn't say NOS Type 3, but it's in the Type 3 Parts section.) _________________ Немає виправдання для війни! Я з Україною.

I got this early Notchback interior press photo recently so here's a huge scan of it
Click to see it really big
Check out all the early stuff
4 position dash air controls
Pointy shift knob
White wheel and column
White wiring loom from the column too - I don't remember noticing that before
Full carpet
Big button glove box, of course
Check out the trim for the door threshold
Is it just me or do the gauge needles look white and not red?
Anything else? _________________ How to Post Photos

Three section speaker grille
Chrome strip under dash continued under the wrap around trim
Door windlace seems to be oddly sectioned on both doors
Parking brake lever looks like a Beetle
There are enough things that look unfinished on this car that I bet it was hastily finished for a pre- release photo shoot... the windlaces, for one- and why no binding on the carpets, even for the steering column or pedal slots? That's not like VW, esp. on a car that was supposed to- and did- compete with entry level Mercedes and BMW.
I agree the needles on the gauges look white, but I think VW did that on B&W photos to make the needles show up. _________________ Немає виправдання для війни! Я з Україною.

It does look unfinished. The break in the door trim, the carpet stuff Tram talked about, painted wire loom on the column? Lack of grip like beetle E brake. _________________

Lots of air brushing to the chrome and reflections. Almost makes the chrome look white. Look at the rear shot of the reflection of the right overrider - looks out of place with nothing else really reflecting. _________________
