Got the front end back together.
It went in without a hitch!
There was a fitment problem with the Saco brakes so I returned them and got some Babystang.

Once everything was back together and working, I couldn't get it in reverse. I checked and re-checked to make sure that the grub screws were being installed in the divot in the rods. I could get under the truck and put it in reverse using the shift rod with the gearshift lever removed. The ball socket where the gearshift lever fits into was in a position that could not be reached by the shift lever. So, I modified one coupler so one of the grub screw holes was offset about 1/2 the diameter clockwise looking toward the back of the vehicle.
After that I was able to get into reverse. These are all new shift rods from Wolfsburg West.
Here the grub screws are safety wired.

Today I cleaned up the gas tank area. I'm replacing the gas tank because the on in there was pretty rusty.
After wirebrushing.
Covered up ready for paint.
The treasure chest prepped for paint.
The gas tank area after painting.

Gas compartment looks great! I did the same thing a few months back. Mine was full of housing insulation and tar. I still have nightmares about wedging myself in there with a respirator and spray paint. It is a pretty satisfying job when complete. _________________ Greener
