steve and john the $50 answer to the age old question of how to clean off the rust without killing the id plate is "navel jelly" they sell it just about eveywhere (most harley guys use it to clean the pipes on there bikes!)
all you do is brush on a coating of it wait a few days and rub it off! it is quite surprising that something that looks like pink snot can work that good on rust but it really does! |

Hey bro,
Finaly found some pics of the vin tag in the tire well of my Zwitter. I was wrong about the 1/13... Looks like it says 1/11, but I'm not real sure... As you can see by the pics below it is a little rusty and hard to read. I will try to remember to check it tomorrow when it get to the shop, it is on a body dolly sitting on the shop floor. I walk past it 100 times a day and it mocks me every time.......
I have used a brass brush on stuff like this in the past and had good luck deciphering stamping that I couldn't read otherwise.

I know of a December 1950 ragtop that is stamped 10/12G. Not mine, someone else's. I thought the 11 and 12 had to do with export or domestic market? Tim |

I know it's an old thread but that should read 'naval jelly' - my navel never gets rusty _________________ "we're here on Earth to fart around" kurt vonnegut
