I don't know about cone filters but I used to run a K&N elelment in the stock airbox with no issues. Replaced it with a stock type paper element and found no difference.

I attended a show in Joliette, Quebec this weekend. First a picture of my car at the show:

(I posted more pics from the show on our club's facebook page):

Great show, there were 2 other Mexican Beetles there. First was a '99 (closest white car) that was also at the show I went to in Syracuse last month. (I took lots of pictures then, so I only took a couple):

There was also a 2001 Mexican Beetle that I hadn't seen before:

The interior had been redone, nice job:

Interesting hubcaps:

And of course the engine:

After the show (which was 300 km east of Ottawa, I went to our cottage 100 km west of Ottawa, so it was an 800 km weekend, 700 on Saturday. Along the way, I accumulated a few bugs:

That interior of that white one is really nice indeed! I wonder if it comes out of some watercooled VW model.

I also really like the blue bug too, it reminds me of the time I got into beetles. I still like that cal-look style.

Any other action? A set of more aggressive cams?

The best bang for the buck mod is to run dual carburetors. My bias is toward Weber IDFs.

I have been out of the scene for a few years, my engine croaked about four years ago, and I am just now getting it back together. My car is a 1984.

Anyway, I have owned this car since 1995, and I am undoing all of the stupidity that I perpetrated on it in my teenage years.

Does anyone have, or can anyone take, a picture of the charcoal canister and how it is mounted? I originally had the metal can that mounts under the luggage area, but threw it away over 20 years ago. I now have the newer style, round, black plastic version, and would like to know how it mounts.

Thanks in advance! I'll post pics soon, I am finishing up the engine in the next few weeks.

Thanks Hopkin! Even though I am building a performance engine for it, I am tired of stinking like gasoline fumes, so I am reinstalling the evaporative system.

Here's a diagram of the EVAP system, note that this is from the newer cars (ACD engines), but I think it would work for you:

Most of that looks similar, from the fuel tank side inside the trunk. Where it is different is mine still blows through the charcoal canister with a hose from the fan shroud, and there aren't any control valves to direct vacuum to anything like newer cars. No purge valve on my car!

Thanks for the diagram!

Ok so the left front spindle is stripped on my 00 bug, is there a cross reference to get one in the states or do I need to get it from Mexico?

If you mean #7 below, the number listed should fit:

#27 = (left) 1134056711, (right) = 1134056721

I would think that they are available stateside.

It seems that the 1600i.de forum is down. When I try to access it, I get the message that the forum is down for maintenance and backup for 24 hours. But that message has been there for a few weeks now..

Does everybody have the same message as me?

I just received an e-mail from Manfred, the owner of the site. He's been in an accident Sad and needs time to recover to be able to manage the forum again.
See the homepage of 1600i.de.

I wish him a speedy recovery, get well soon!
