Looking good!
What's your plan with the motor? Stock or dual carb or ...?

Thanks peter, will be stock. I've got some heads with new valves, guides n springs. Got all the right bits for it so will build it as intended in 55. It's going to be RGBs in he bus so limited to top speed anyway. _________________ shiny paint doesnt make it worth any more |

Been having a play off an on all day.
Got P&Cs on, good deck height and turns over smoothly.
Heads on, pushrods in and smooth.
Pulled the dizzy apart, gave it a good clean, replaced broken fibre washers and oiled it up. Smooth and tighter now.
Tinware and manifold on. I’m not painting it, I like them looking like crap but run good.
Fuel pump took an hour to pull apart, cleaned and new diaphragm...

Crap pics because of shit light.
Carb, pulled down, cleaned and rebuilt. There’s a tiny bit of throttle shaft play but nothing too bad.
Got the big nut generator and housing on and wingnut oil bath.
Didn’t for get the finger...
Heater boxes and a couple small things to go before fire up.
I know that shiny looks better, but thats not the look I’m going for... _________________ shiny paint doesnt make it worth any more |

Thanks guys, the only bad thing is someone back in the day had modified it for a 1300 so the pipes don’t line up, the one on the head at the moment hasn’t been touched so that’s my alignment to fix the other side. Hope it still sounds good too. The bottom of the quads have some rust issues also that I’m going to have to fix, but it’s thin steel there so may have to get someone to tig them.
It’s something I’d like to use, but may have to make a new one. It’s not an exhaust that’s found anywhere anymore. _________________ shiny paint doesnt make it worth any more |

Wasnt happy with the way the seal st in the vent window so I pulled it apart again, and good thing I did since the seal I put in it had perished already.
Cleaned up the bottom corner and gave it a spray with rust paint to protect/prolong its life again.
Then built a jig for it.
Made the jig so it can be utilised for both sides.
Insert seal and screw together even. Easy.
Trim and finished!

One of the hinges on the original safaris was rusted , so onto repairing it.
Used a screw driver to pry the folded corners up a little.
Got the seal remover into it to open the hinge a little more.
Tap the broken pin with a punch until it popped out
Then used vise grips on the pin and tapped the side of them until the broken pin was removed.
Repeated on the top hinge.
All the broken bits.
Used 2.4mm tig wire in stainless.
Cleaned out the holes on the frame and used a 2.5mm drill bit on the lose hinge section to open it up a little so it doesn’t bind anywhere.
And finished. Tapped down the sections that were pryed open.

good to see Dion, I have this job ahead of me for both my sets of safaris. Hadn't thought of an answer yet so... very timely.
Cheers

Went and picked up the original beam in a Suzuki swift. Not easy or a comfortable drive back that’s for sure!
Beam had been “modified” to be pulled as a caravan.
And it’s all covered in grease/dirt/shit like all of them!
Beam ##
And pulled spindles
Then pulled the arms and spring packs. Been hot here so left it in the sun to “melt” some of the old grease out before cleaning and checking tolerances!
It’s amazing how much grease comes out of it. The center pin bushes are still in it, so will knock them out and install new ones. _________________ shiny paint doesnt make it worth any more |

Finally started the cleaning process. Don’t uave the luxury of a sandblasted, nor wanted to use one to save sand getting into it.
Then came across this.
Could cut and weld it up, but I don’t know if it’s out of shape, and don’t want to fuck the front end geometry..
So had to start on this one then. Also from a 55 Wolfsburg bus so not complaining. Not the og one but still happy.
And apart, again....
Hopefully this one will be good. _________________ shiny paint doesnt make it worth any more |
