looking good!

Thanks Angus! I'm now feeling satisfied that it isn't extreme. BTW, when I was driving it, it tracked perfectly fine, never pulled to right/left when I let go of the steering wheel.

Measured the cross section, 2232mm from front left of framehead, where the screwdriver is, to the right-rear shock tower. Front right to back left is 2233mm! The crack is also ~1mm. Here's a few pics of where I measured from:

This last one is how I cut from the front left to rear right (across the center if the camera).

I understand if I had made the angle wider, working farther from the center of the car, the difference could be significantly larger.

Forrest

Good to see it seems OK. I personally would have gone a little wider on the beam to check, but the reference you made to the vehicle tracking well when you were driving is a good sign.

When you do the repair to the framehead, do another measurement check just to see if there is any movement.

All my comments should be taken with a grain of salt. I am by no means a specialist in this area, rather an enthusiast who is professionally a mechanical engineer. I'm just applying an engineering logic to it, and to be honest it's more like high-school geometry!

Good luck with the rest of your project.

Took a look at your resto. Wow, that is coming along very well! I'm finally getting some cash to move forward on mine again. I have the Front beam off and I'm grinding the pan and replacing the drivers side. I am using the half pans though. Cutting along the seat rails and welding along that edge, instead of trying to remove the rails. They are structurally in tact along that portion of metal so it's good. The front beam is just getting a paint job and new seals. Other than that its fine! Very Happy

After a period of time dealing with other cars and a lack of jobs, I've recently put some good time into this car. Welded up the new pan, got items transfer over and I'm building custom tracks for my new RX8 seats! The body is about to go on soon, after I get a new trans from KCR in the next few weeks. I will upload some photos tomorrow before work, or possibly saturday! Can't wait to share it

Yes they are pretty much the same. Only difference would be whether it is IRS or swingaxle and possibly the gearing. I know different years have different ratios, but I'm not sure where from. As a general rule of thumb though, yes they are pretty much the same. There are just small nuances such as short axle, long axle (swing trans) and various other small things. There is a LOT of info if you search out there!
