Lots of different size O.E. German hoses. Pricey!
Mounting the electric engine fuel pump. We used the gas heater bracket for this. Maybe we can use this pump for the heater also?
Here's the fuel flow schematic. Click on it to see the red arrows. Fuel filters are used to change from domestic size hose, to metric. The filter is "stepped up", so it has both sizes. Very clever...
Sideview of fuel lines, under the gas tank, from the right front fender. Proves plenty of clearance for pump & lines. |

Test fitting the new Thing Shop top last night. Perfect fit, very impressed.
Check out how nice this angle lines up with the windshield. |

The pump for the heater is a solenoid type pump and operates by contacts in the fan. |

Did you not use any gaskets either side of the plastic filter, or are you counting on the filter flange to seal both leak paths? I bought the same kit from cip1 and it recommended gaskets be used with this filter. Also, did you use the loose washer under the nut?
Great job on the restoration and the step-by-step posts. _________________ 1963 Bug, 1600DP, 12V alternator conversion

madster, you will be eating a lot of pop-corn.
Since Randy found the thing facebook page a few months ago, he has not been back here to finish up. _________________ Supposed to be 77käfer, but there are no umlauts on an american keyboard

people who drive a vw thing (type 181/182)
it is not a build thread, he is just posting that it is together, and that it drives. short videos of test drives etc.
Now if you want to read through an interesting one on here, check this one out (all 18 pages): https://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=389726&highlight=schwimmer _________________ Supposed to be 77käfer, but there are no umlauts on an american keyboard

A little out of sequence...revisiting the steering assemble. A sketch I made of the steering column assemble on the steering wheel end. We added a plastic spacer in place of the felt to help keep the anti rattle bushing in place.
Mike Basso at Thing Parts hooked us up with all the original steering column hardeware
Test fitting the steering column
Inserting the horn ground wire through the steering wheel
Through trial and error we finally got a good gap/spacing on the steering column assemble. A lot of small variables at play here, both top and bottom |

So we ended up having to turn the voltage regulator to clear the dual carbs |

Installing the front fenders was more difficult than I thought i would be, we finally ended up using tape to hold the clips in place |

I skimmed through page 1 and skipped right to the last. Amazing work. Definitely will be reading through the thread for ideas/inspiration. Beautiful Thing. _________________ - 1977 CEI Sunroof Bus 2.0L F.I. Hydraulic Lifters
