Could it be all the foot traffic at your place all night raising suspicion? We get you're being creative in your 'financing' of the restoration.

The plan now is to sandblast, so I opened up the lower nose so we can get inside there.
The outer skin is pretty crusty, but fortunately the inner support and front section of floor is still pretty good.
Also pulled the engine to gain better access for blasting the engine compartment.
For all of you that restore cars, I'm sure you know what it's like to explore certain areas of the project that haven't seen the light of day for decades and occasionally run across cool stuff. Almost like a mechanic version of Indiana Jones, sometimes we find oddities from a forgotten past.
Here we find a petrified stick of gum and some Cheet-os promotional coasters still in the wrapper...sorta. These must be old because when's the last time anyone actually got anything more that a coupon inside something?

I wondered what the free bonus was that the supplier offered.... _________________ Larry, Aircool Designs

Neat.
I google'd those and looked on eBay and nothing came up at all.
I wonder if they are rare and/or collectible by Cheetos people?
I did find a bunch of other ones that looks the same but have logos in the center ring for various companies. _________________ How to Post Photos

Today I continued fighting with that stretched metal on the left rear panel.
Heat, beat, quench, repeat.
It really challenged me. Ended up with a little relief cut to pull it in...that took care of it. |
Do yourself a favor and get a shrinking disc.

Much more accurate, easier, and less time to do the same work. Plus you do not end up over work hardening the metal. _________________ In Stereo, Where Available! |

I thought they were cool too. I'm sure Larry will keep them with this SC _________________ 1956 Oval

Removed the right side door and stripped the paint off the skin...the jambs and inner structure will be blasted. Actually pleasantly surprised...did not find any Bondo.
This truck so far has been a beat-to-death Bondo-ed rust beast...I fully expected the same here.
Also, stripped half the nose...same as the door...no Bondo
Guess I shouldn't get too excited...I still have the other half of the nose and left side door.
The only real issues with this door is it's a little soft on the inside bottom and some small stress cracks around the door release mechanism... both easily fixed
Hey Aircool67...looks like we will need another "package" from Columbia

Last time I got a package from Columbia,
I was super stoked.
Score!
Stayed up all night welding/grinding,
Felt like king of the world!
I was good at what I did, people liked me,
And I had clever things to say..
Next morning, though, I wasted most of the day sleeping/slacking,
Felt lethargic and un-motivated,
And realized how much of my money was gone, too..
Somehow,
It seems like a "really good idea" to do it all again!

Doing some test "digging" on the driver's treasure chest door. Not good
Besides the rust around the perimeter the whole door is bowed seriously plus at least 1/2" filler already on it and it's still not even close.
The decision was made that by the time we get a skin from Gerson and I straighten and rebuild the inner structure, Larry will be ahead on money to just buy a new one. More Funky Green on it's way!
I know to the right guy this is repairable...and I can fix it...it's just not worth it since Gerson's doors are so nice and correct.
This will probably end up as wall art or who knows. _________________ 1956 Oval
