I've been working on this oval intermittently over the past two years or so. My goal is to build a car that does not detract too much from the original look given that Porsche/VW got a lot of little aesthetic aspects of these vehicles so right; or at least they're so easily appreciated in their factory form.
Having said that, I did set out to alter one major aspect of the car to better reflect my style. The suspension.
Some may appreciate these changes, some may not, but throughout the whole process I've tried to respect the original design. The modifications have been carried out in a way that aims to be as seamless as possible.
Still a way to go. There are KlassicFab heater channels, rear quarters and front firewall to go in next.

Very nice work with a great amount of attention to detail! I'm liking it so far...damn that sits low! I was wondering why you built new trailing arms until I saw the beam and bags. This was all done in your shop?? |

Thank you! Most of the work I have done myself or with the help of mates. One mate runs a pretty well equipped VW engine building workshop here in Queensland Australia called Conti Engines. I've had access to the workshop and this is where majority of the work has been done. The tig welding on the beam and trailing arms was done by a mate of his who builds drag car chassis/roll cages etc. I just made the jigs, notched the moly and had him weld them together.
The panel work/tubs I did alongside a guy who runs a private vehicle restoration business. I spent a lot of time largely on weekends over an eight month period getting the hang of the shrinker/stretcher and the English wheel etc. Still a long way to go on the body.
Usually I conceive an idea, source all the parts and materials, seek out someone who can help achieve the results I want and learn a few tips along the way. I've also just done some formal training in AutoCAD and Autodesk Inventor which definitely comes in handy for getting those ideas across as well.
Thanks again, cheers. |

With all the training you are getting on this car, the next one will be all your own work for sure! I've never been sold on air bags, but your car has the look I like! And the adjustibility on the fly to get over speed bumps and steep driveway approaches. I really like it! Keep the pics coming as you progress! |

Thanks guys.
Hey, thanks Dion! Been pondering it a long time, moved out of the country a while and miss working on it. All in good time. |

Unfortunately I’ve not been making too much progress on the car lately. I have decided to offer CAD files for the rear air ride bracketry for sale though. Link is in my signature. |

Thanks for the feedback.
Unfortunately the trailing arms are quite cost prohibitive for me to reproduce and won't work with factory size needle bearings or bushings. If you're interested in an alternative though, I recommend getting in touch with Samba user cage66. He's been producing extended trailing arms. |

Thanks heaps. Hope to get back into it before too long. The car is up north, Bribie Island. |
