Here's some info on mass and rotating weight.
http://www.w8ji.com/rotating_mass_acceleration.htm

It kind of defines the difference in philosophy between driving our cars and posing (bling, bags, etc). I drive a patina car that is static dropped and handles well. At speed.

Form should always follow function.

Perhaps you could sell me a complete set of 4 and I could do additional machining to lighten them and make the offsets work for a ghia! Now THAT would be kewl!

I could even change the widths cuz of the steel rim!

Send me a set and I'll put em on. Seriously.

I did not ask to learn something I already know about.

You have three ways people look at wheels.

They hold the tires on and get me from point A to point b.
They are light and help me get down the track as quick and light as possible, along with holding the tires on.
Then like most, they are an esthetic. Like lipstick, a nice watch or a slammin pair of chucks.

Smoothies are made as an esthetic and down claim to be anything more.

You even reviewing the wheels online on our website.

***** Perfect look, excellent workmanship!

It was really hard to find the right wheels for our 62 Ghia Convertible. A patina ride - in old school style, everything else in 17" had too much bling or too many cars with them. Love the look - a combination of retro and plus sizing. Really well constructed - machining and finishing is beautiful. Pete hooked us up.

As I said, I thought they were cool until you never sent the 4th wheel. I was excited! See, poor customer service makes your products lose their lustre as they sit in the garage unable to be installed.

You do a lot of cleanup work on the web Pete. Fact remains, you never provided the 4th, and strung me along for a month.

BUT! You did take them back, and that was appreciated. I would appreciate my review removed from your website, as it didn't reflect the finished project.

Have a nice memorial holiday.

Things happen. Some understand, others do not. You had deadlines, I understand. I do no such thing as web clean up. I manage everything to ensure everyone sees both sides, not just the clients.

You have an interesting definition of 'transparent':

1. Anonymously posting replies for 7 posts.
2. Referring to yourself/Pete in the 3rd person on post 8 then admitting, on post 19, that you/Pete were the one posting.
3. Offering a refund on a public thread then putting questionable conditions on that return in private email.

http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=633909

The only thing 'transparent' about your company is that you focus on the people sending you money and ignore those who have a problem unless they post it in a public thread - where you (incorrectly) defend your company and alienate your 'former' customer by making them 'the problem'. You make public commitments that, in private, you have zero intent of honoring without a condition that benefits your company - not realizing how much damage it could do to future orders.

You know how to silence an unhappy customer? Take your product back, no special conditions, refund the money quickly.

Am I looking to start this all over again? No.

Airkewld's inability to take responsibility for their errors should not be reflected on the customer.

That's my feedback on Airkewld.

You have a pretty unique situation with your transaction. But I learned from your post. Because of you, I have to detail things better. You have helped me better my process, thank you.

I took advantage of Airkewld's ad in search of ball-joint beam parts. I sent an inquiry which the response was a link to a form to be completed. I completed the form and received a UPS shipper label inside 24 hours. I packed everything and had the parcel on its way.

I followed up with an e-mail about a week later inquiring about payment. The customer service rep informed me all parts are batched and sent for stripping and inspection for serviceability. Once they knew which parts were acceptable for the Core Parts Program, I would receive notification of payment.

Today, I received a Paypal payment from Airkewld along with a follow-up from Pete which explained one part was bad.

I have no complaints, and this was a great way to offload excess parts.

Had a good experience. Installed a 3" narrowed adjustable link pin with drop spindles that customer had. Had an issue with the brake line clearing the tie rod nut. Talked to their tech a few times and ended up having them make up a banjo type line. Yeah, cost a little extra, but their support was great and they resolved my issue.

Pete inquired about a tool I had for sale. He knew what he was looking for and followed payment instructions to a T. The transaction was very smooth and he was clear in his communication, excellent follow-through. Recomended buyer.
Thanks Pete!

I was approached by the owner/buyer about my pile of front ends/parts , wanting to buy in mass. There was no mention in the 1/2 dozen e-mails about not paying until they "evaluated" my parts. Poor communication, amazed anyone responds to this program. No sale , no harm done.

Can you give me an estimate on on home many bug beams you have? Would you be willing to put them on a pallet so that they can be picked up?

Hi there, I have a lot and am stuck in the shop till the weekend ( this pile is in my outer yard). I could pallatize and shrink wrap a load as long as the driver could pick it up with an on-board Fork Lift and does not require a loading dock. I have a mess of pitman arms and OG tierod ends as well. I'm winding down parts of my shop due to age.

More soon.

Thanks Manfred

OK, I looked at the pile and it will take me awhile to process this. Many Of my beams are not the best, so parting them out makes the most sense. That way I can stuff parts into flat rate boxes. Its fucking hot right now, I'm old, so this will be something that happens in a few weeks when I'm able to do it.

More later

Thanks Manfred

We do not need to worry about flat rate boxes. Shipping rates are perfect for me to pick them up from you by pallet or by box. I always need these, so when you are able, I appreciate you help us make this happen.

Ok I'm getting close to being able to tackle my pile, I have one Split Bus spindle in good shape. I'll accept your price offering and ship it to you. That can get our relationship started.

Thanks Manfred

Thanks for the email Manfred, we have a process that works great for us, hope it makes better sense for both of us. https://www.airkewld.com/Core-Parts-Program-s/2366.htm

To summarize, we do not offer paying for the items before chemically stripping them due to a high amount of bad parts. But in the event they don't work for us, we gladly send them back cleaned should you want to fix them and offer them to someone else.

If this works, we are happy to move forward.

No way-pay first- then you get the part. I've been in the VW scene for 40 years and have 5 pages of samba feedback.

Appreciate your time and effort Manfred. Have an amazing week.

Manfred, I was expecting a palletized shipment of parts for hundreds, if not thousands of dollars. You surprised me with only offering one spindle to get our relationship started. My core program works for most, my apologies if it doesn't work for you. For reference, 3 dozen or more friends on the samba use this service and it works great for transparency and weeds out the bad parts that need to be cleaned and checked. Adam Kotke, Bryan Wilson send me pallets of parts that I pay in advance. Small parts, we go through the program. And if our friend wants the bad parts back, we ship it on our dime. So we are invested in this 100% and it seemed to be a great program. Once again, sorry for the subpar communication we have provided you.

Well, I'm happy! Airkewld took my money and saved me a lot of time. They built a custom front beam for my Mini-T buggy and it looks nice. A powder coat finish for the major parts and their touches with fastener and paint detail really add up to a clean look. I've grabbed the spindles, moving the steering and suspension up and down, and it feels nice -- tight and smooth.

As received:

Unwrapped:

If I had a minor suggestion it would be that they should remove the stop arm from the Pitman arm on kingpin front ends, similar to the way they remove the lower control arm shock mount on shockless front ends. It won't show on my buggy, but on a fenderless Bug or buggy it would. One nice touch is that they include the stops on the beam for stock steering box clamp. I may have to modify the clamp for my unusual buggy, but I appreciate that they include them.

I have purchased several components from Airkewld and I couldn't be happier. One of my best friends is a machinist for a large and well-known company. He looked at my Bad Series brakes and commented on there quality and craftsmanship. Unlike other aftermarket parts that I have purchased from other companies... everything fit correctly. Pete is very friendly on the phone and I appreciate that he seems willing to talk to customers. I also purchased a 4" narrowed beam from Airkewld and it is top notch!!! Next time I build another aircooled VW I will be purchasing my suspension and brake parts from Pete. Thanks!!!

i would like airkewld better if he did not argue with customers and blame them when his products are poor quality. i notice when any negative productive feedback is posted on his FB page, he just blocks or deletes the feedback. that is a very sad way to treat customers who have legitimate gripes.

I've never had the pleasure of working with them but I give them a lot of credit. They are constantly watching this thread and answering questions and complaints in a public forum. Not many companies do that. It will make the
decisions of who do work with a lot easier for me.
Good work Airkewld

I am sorry you had a bad experience Tacky. That was not like my experience with Pete. You can see my initial review above, that I'll expand below.

When I went to install the front wheel bearings on my new complete front beam I did run into a problem. The left front spindle inner wheel bearing was loose to the point where I could wiggle it on the spindle. The spindle looked good but it was clearly undersized at some point over its previous 50 or so years of service. I measured the race with my calipers and called out to Pete.

He promptly sent out another front knuckle complete, and shipped it with a return label in the box. I pulled the left front link pin carrier off keeping the king pin shims in place by location. I swapped the new for the old and sent back old one back with the included UPS return label.

I didn't catch any grief and I got the new king and link pin assembly in just a few days. I didn't come back and update the review before because Airkewld took care of me. Problems happen -- they stepped up to the plate. It didn't change my opinion expressed in my review above (well, perhaps raised it a little.)

I bought a rebuilt steering box from Airkewld a few years ago. I just installed it and my '61 bug steers like never before. It feels better, safer and doesn't want to wash-out when I go around a curve.
No more 'counter steering' to drive straight down the road!
Thanks Airkewld!
