Some people just have waaaaay to much money to blow with the economy getting better. I wonder what's going to happen when they run out of high end buyers to sell too. _________________ "asking and getting are two different things" |

Hello Everett,
many thanks for the advice and help.
The car will be stored next to the very same car of another customer that is in 95% og condition.
It is a late 54, so that we can compare them and see what we would need to make it as correct as possible.
Same with the extra goodies! The seller only wanted to make the car more complete and nice. I don´t think these little extras had any influence on the price! If he wanted a correct instruction manual, I think we will get him one.
At the moment I am happy that it came to the right owner for a right amount of money.
There are many less rare and desireable cars out there selling for far more money. _________________ Walter Jelinek

I followed this bus back from Vanfest a couple of years ago (A and B roads in the UK) it was a very interesting experience, don't think I got out of third gear!! so it's defiantly the real deal! New owner, enjoy!! _________________ www.buseswithattitude.co.uk |

Regardless of exact price, to me it is astounding that a VW could seek such a price. Warms the heart. There will always be wealthy people to buy these wonderful cars at such high prices, while the rest of can oow and aww at them. These are the things that drive us, push us in the direction we wish to go. My concern is if the rest of the people in the world (non-VW people) take to them like wildfire, what will happen? It would be a good thing?
Everyone now knows that some VW's sell for $200k American Dollars, they are all going to want to cash in, somehow. In the 1990's here in the states people took to Harley Davidson like wild fire, a fad. It was an odd time for us who had been there all along, starting to level out now, but never the same since. I'm stuck on 1200 aircooled motors, don't know why, just am. I've driven just about everything under the sun, owned some very nice cars including a 2014 Cadillac and several Porsche's, but my faves are my 1964 bug w/40h and my 1973 Harley 1200 Flh. Simply put: It's more fun to drive a slow car fast than it is to drive a fast car slow. Word! |

My personal reaction to this auction is that this is great news. Sure some models are going to become unobtanium for the average Joe, but its only increasing our already growing passion for these great cars. Guys are looking in their garage in a different light, and maybe some projects will hit the road with newly found motivation.
Imagine the opposite, all of the time and effort to restore a type 2 (or any vintage vw), and the value drastically decline. I think its all good in my book. Its even helped to show my friends that I'm not completely insane for loving these cars. Thats my 2 cents. _________________ Shadetree Westy

People I know that don't have any buses but watch CNN are emailing me about the sold bus. It seems like most folks that know me and my buses are learning about them from main stream media sources. I guess it's big news that they are worth a lot of money. _________________ 1971 Deluxe Sunroof Bay 1905 stroker, dual idf40's, 74mm Scat forged crank, engle 110 cam. $220k for this bus seems pretty reasonable when you consider that it is at least 100 times more rare than the early 60s 23 windows that have sold at Barrett Jackson for well over 100k in the last few years, and this barndoor is also in much higher state of restoration as well.
I cannot wait for the bus bubble to crash, $220k for a bus this rare and nice implies to me that the market may finally be cooling off. |

Make sure you report that ad to bugbus.net, I didn't see a link there but I have seen ads on their site in the past marked SCAM |
I did that already, couldn’t find a link either, so I contacted the site admin.... _________________ https://slammedsixty.blogspot.com

Thanks for the clarification.
Congrats to the new owner, this Bus looks awesome.
I noticed a number of items on the engine are not "correct" for 1955 - fuel pump, distributor, generator pulley, etc. - minor things.
If you want any assistance in making it appear more original, feel free to post.

I also grabbed all the photos to save here.

Hey Everett, What isn't correct on the fuel pump? |

Is this the bus that actor Tom Hanks purchased? He actually talked about it in an interview, and it was about the same time as the auction so it has me wondering......
He certainly has the money.
