Maybe it was just that feeling you get when you wash your car and it seems to make it run better, but I could have sworn I got a little better performance over HWY 17 (hilly between Santa Cruz and Silicon Valley) last night, the first time since replacing the seal on my leaky gas cap. Can a loose or poorly sealed gas cap impact engine performance?

No idea, but how did you know you had a leaky gas cap?

Gas smell and gas racing stripes on the van behind the filler bezel. It was obvious the old seal was leaking.... cracked and old. And when I leaned overthe cap and took a big sniff, I felt funny. Laughing

My wife likes to pat the Van on the dash when it is working hard going up a hill. Our van likes the encouragement. I'm sure yours likes its new gas cap.

A loose OIL cap can do... amazing things.

Shocked

I do not chant 'I Think I Can!' when Winston is slogging it uphill. He finds that insulting. But I do pat him, and tell him how well he's done. He responds well to that. With his RMW exhaust, he keeps surprising me with his new speed.

A wise Vanagonaut once said, 'Never anthropomorphize a Vanagon. They HATE that!'

Shocked

Best!
