This was a very fun adventure. It was just 7 day ago I found it.
Very exciting when I found bits that were unexpectedly still good. It was quite a bit of work though and a two person job to handle the parts. Used a generator and a grinder to cut it up. Went through 7 cutting disks and that is with most of it falling apart.
Now I just need to get it all stored away.
I am hoping to pick up a late 50s to early 60s repairable panel as a driver and these parts may come in handy. Much of it is not good enough to be worth shipping but good for me to use. I will likely sell some stuff if someone wants it but I'm happy to keep everything.
Now I want to find another. It is probably a good think there are not many around here. Haha. _________________ My 64 Kombi restoration

Wow, there's a lot of good usable stuff there! Who knows how many other busses will now live thanks to these parts. You might as well get that engine up and running, never hurts to have a spare ready to go sitting in the corner. _________________ 1973 Superbeetle: 1st car, owned since age 12. I'd pull the sump plate off and look at the case opening there. Lots of pictures of terrible corrosion on the case under the sump plates from water sitting in there on other engines that sat for decades like that one.
Nice job scavenging so many usable parts off the corpse. _________________ Contact me at [email protected]

That's pretty impressive that the thermostat is still good. Engine case looks good too. _________________ Joey

Someone replaced the little fill plug with a grease fitting.
Weird but I guess as long as they didn't use normal straight front end grease it should be ok. |
I've seen this many times, and used it. If the seal is too far gone to keep oil in, grease at least doesn't run out so fast.

Man, you would be surprised to see some of the rusted shit I've wrapped in cardboard and shipped anywhere on this continent. However bad that stuff is, somewhere there's a guy fixing a worse bus, and he wants that. You think it can't be so, but its always wanted. Ironically, I have a nice Classic Fab side in the classifieds, but all of the rusty original metal has sold.... _________________ modok wrote:

Judging by the unmolested condition of the tappet slots and the securing nuts, this area almost appears virgin. |
