ARNOLD Split VW FL-AZ Restor-Version Coca Cola Special

It's quite a title, but I had the idea to build a German Coke bug to be a companion to my TCO Coke pickup. I found a poor wrecked
ARNOLD split on German eBay, and decided it needed my help. As I have repaired a number of these bodies for projects with my
good friend Hacksaw BoB, I asked him to grab this for me, as he has a German account he can use. In a flash it was on my
workbench here in Florida. As bad as it looks, it's actually not the worst we have saved!

The first step was to cut parts off of some donor bodies to fix the wrecked left front fender and the unintended town car roof.
We use PEPE wrecks as donors, as they are reissues of the ARNOLD.

Next there was a whole lot of bodywork involved in mating the donor parts to the vintage body.

Next, I did a quick chassis cleanup and repair, and polished the bumpers and hubcaps. (I decided to leave the rust patina on
the hubcaps because I liked the look.) Next I trolled the internet for images and sat down and sketched how I wanted the car to
look. When all was done I boxed it up and sent it off to Restor-Version West in arid Arizona for its final transformation. I think
Baby Arnold would be proud of how it turned out.

OK . . . The ARNOLD Split VW was received at the AZ R-V Shop. I am always impressed with the work and skill that the
Blue Baron has in repairing these plastic cars Truly Amazing
Along with the VW came a diagram of what the theme for this ARNOLD Split would be – a vintage Coca Cola VW Sedan.
The plastic body was prepped and 2 holes re-drilled for the body/chassis mounting rivets.
A good soapy water cleaning and then the body was painted Dover White.

OK . . since this project would the a multi-colored paint scheme . . .
The upper section of the body would be masked off.

The lower section of the body would be painted the yellow color.

Any update on this? This reminds me of the VW ad from the 60's (sorry for the poor scan, i used an app on my phone).

Progress is being made Here is an update . . . . .

The body is again masked off for the center red paint section.

The red paint follows the contour lines of the ARNOLD VW although
those contour lines are not accurate for the real VW silhouette.

A custom graphics set is created and printed on a water transfer decal sheet using a color laser printer for this project

The water transfer decals are applied to the body.

A couple of coats of clear paint seals the decals.

A decal is placed under the top inside to signify that was a FL-AZ project.

The completed ARNOLD Split VW body is ready to be attached to the chassis.

Just seeing the final pictures today - not sure how I missed the grand reveal (yup and my ice cubes have melted).

Kidding aside, what a transformation. Excellent job!
