|
|
Hi Guys, I searched the forums and did not see much on this. Would you guys recommend the stock rubber coupler or urethane?
My Buggy will be used for street only but some roads here are the same as whats on the moon, so kinda off roading on the streets too lol.
Would the rubber type be better for vibration absorption or is it negligible using the urethane one?
Thanks. |

The urethane one will crack and split without notice and leave you without steering and probably at the worst time in your life.... AVOID THEM AT ALL COST.... Use standard OEM style rubber (Rag) joint coupler....
There several pictures here on the Samba of the urethane failures but unfortunately they are hosted on photobucket which has a new policy that does not allow one to link to them....

WOW.
Thanks Dale, always great help from you. Here the heat and UV is high so a lot suffers accelerated damage/wear especially if you add the salt air to that.
I am ordering a bunch of stuff for the Bluggy..so I appreicate the help.
Thanks again.
Cheers. |

Forgot to ask Dale, where is best to get OE parts from, online that is?
On my purcahse list I am looking at
1. EMPI wiring harness
2. Short trigger shifter
3: 75 AMP alternator with chrome kit. I will install a bigger battery since I will have a nice head unit, HAM radio and dont laugh..an alarm with field disturbance sensors
4: GPS Speedo
5 Led lights and some other maintenance parts.
Let me know if I should add anything else to the list please which is essential.
Thanks. |

I would be very careful with steering. Here is the best place to order OEM or close to OEM parts.

Are you considering the EMPI "bag-o-wires" wiring harness?
If so I suggest you avoid that like you would avoid the urethane steering coupler. They are also complete garbage. |

Thats correct, never go cheap or take short cuts on electrical, fuel, brakes or steering..
Thanks for the reply and link.

Hello Bluggy,
Ham radio equipement i guess must seldom be seen in a buggy ? Well you won't be alone ! i have the ham licence too ! and some type of ham radio equipement will be installed next summer in my buggy wether it be HF or vhf-uhf maybe both.
Perhaps maybe one day we could try and have a "buggy-to-buggy" contact !
There is also a very well known ham instructer/buggy owner in California. So there will be at least three of us ! cheers |

Hi Rick, small world..I was living in Ottawa until a few years ago, before I moved down here with the Cdn Gvt on a Diplomatic contract.
Where in Quebec are you, I traveled there a bit for work and pleasure. You can check your log for VA3RIR or my local call sign 8P9RR in cased we made contact before.
We have Echolink here so you can make contact on VHF or we can also make contact when 10 meters is open.
I have a 7 band Hex Beam and a Flex 4700 SDR here now but too busy to get on the air. Have you got a mobile rig as yet? I have an an Alinco 635T/E for VHF, have to decide what I will get for UHF.
I am also rebuilding a 97 Land Rover Defender 300TDI which will be fully HAM equipped with dual batteries, a solar system etc. Would be nice to get on the air for Buggy to Buggy contact for sure, fill in your guy in Cali about the details too.
Note that you might want to do an alternator conversion on you Buggy since the generator will create lots of RF noise.
I had an alternator conversion kit sitting in my Amazon basket today, guess what..they raised the price of it by $15 when I told them I was buying it...unreal.
Thanks for sharing the info and be in touch.
