That's a fairly rare photo of a Karmann Ghia.
There's plenty of rusty Karmann Ghia photos, but not very many photos depicting exactly what initially jumpstarted that corrosion.
Being from the Midwestern Rust Belt myself, I can recognize a puddle of salty water on a snow covered driveway when I see one. |
Yes, I'm cringing seeing this Karmann Ghia standing in the snow and slush.
We know that rust is already found a home inside the rocker assemblies and just above the headlight bowls inside those beautiful low light cabriolet front fenders!! |
The optimist in me says they pulled it out of the garage for that shot and then tucked it safely away. Wouldn't that have been nice... |
Same house, sunnier times. NY?
Looked after? Surely a happy ending.

I found a bunch of retro photos on my Computer and I'm not sure if these are up on the Samba. So here they are, and hopefully none repeated already in this thread.

The number plate on this Lowlight suggests the car was registered in Plettenberg Bay, South Africa, a magical holiday destination. I've spent many holidays there, as recently as March this year. I think I recognize Robberg (literally, seal mountain) in the background.

Lovely picture.^
I like it a lot so I cleaned it up a little.

Rüdesheim am Rhein license plates and parked next to a vineyard, I'm wondering if those two elegant ladies were related to Hugo Asbach, founder of the Asbach GmbH? (maker of the world famous German Weinbrand aka brandy that bears his name.)
In being such a small town and just so happened to be parked right next to a vineyard, with all those *extra* accessories adorning the front bumper and in knowing how hard it was to take delivery of the first Karmann Ghia Kabrioletts, I'm sure in their case it was the old saying "Money Talks" that got them in that rare and wonderful coach built convertible they're sitting in and posing with.... <3 *Original unsigned post card photos*
I also wonder what metallic color this Kabrio was?

Looking at the light colour of the cabriolet top cover it would be either Amazon,Graphite silver or Colorado/Cardinal red. |
