This 1961 pearl white cabriolet is simply amazing, low mileage, original paint, interior, etc. Doesn't get much better in my opinion..
And it's for sale, if I had the cash it'd be in my garage, love it!

Haha, I wish, I'd be looking for a friends discount!
Just sharing an awesome car that you may not have seen, or see again when it disappears into to a private collection. |

Sensational car. If only more ghias were in an original condition.
Look how white (cream) the headlining is (poking out)!
Be good to see a full picture of the headlining (when the hood is up).
Great reference for the rear window shape, & interior.
Beige mats.
Love all the correct paraphernalia too. _________________ -StockRocks- |

Wow, seldom seen original details!
Were the '61 European models sold with just the anchor points sans seatbelt?
Was the seat back tie down subsequently relocated in later years?

Exciting to see such an original example! Thanks for posting.
Crocteau, you are seeing the difference in the rear seat strap in a Karmann Ghia cabriolet vs. a coupe (the coupe strap in shown in the owner's manual page you posted). Good discussion of the rear seat strap found here:

Thanks cruiser; I enjoyed reading the experts' discussion in that link. Appreciation of this unmolested '61 can't be overstated. |

crocteau, I don't think so. In my strong opinion the belt anchors only started with the '62 model year, since the basic tunnel from Beetles was shared with Ghias. My explanation for this "1961" Ghia having the anchors would be that many European countries base their car's year on the "date of first registration" and not the actual model year. Unfortunately my outdated browser does not enable seeing the photos on the original seller's website to see in which country they are located. Since the '62 model year started in 8/61 for both Ghia and Beetle, the first registration could very well still be in the late months of '61 which would lead to this model year designation. |

Thank you for showing us an exceptional unmolested car!
The car seems to have brittle grayish door strikers, which were factory OG to the '61? Possibly they have been replaced by a period VW dealer by using stock parts for earlier cars ('55)??

Thanks Rome, you're spot on. My modern browser produced this excerpt from the seller's website that supports your conclusion. "Quite uniquely the complete set of manuals, service books in their original holders, the KfZ letter, the punch plate (the 'anschriftenplatte') and punched out key ring are still present!!! This car first saw the light of day in Osnabrück on the 4th September 1961, delivered to the Mahag dealer in Munich on the 6th September 1961 and collected by the 1st owner on the 13th September 1961. Since then it has had two further owners clocking up a certified 43.686 km. We would like to draw your attention to the fact that this VW has never required any restoration work and has been kept in optimal condition by the dealer, both aesthetically and mechanically." |

I noticed the spare tire is a Firestone brand tire. Would that brand of tire have been original back then? _________________ Ghia Owner Emeritus |
