Has anyone used the oyo ZV/JCU 4R3 type3 distributor on a 36hp Okrasa engine? I'm thinking this was what Vw used with dual carb and the looks of it are "correct".

It will work just fine, and they are (IMHO) a fine distributor, if not an unusual choice. If it's in good shape I wouldn't mind trying it out and seeing how it does. A more usual choice would be the 010, 019, or VJU4BR8 even. Reports say that they work very, very well on 1500-1600 stock, as well as mild performance applications.

It is an SVDA type distributor, and has a little bit more complex centrifugal weight arrangement.

Many set the timing with them by pulling a couple plug wires to get the initial settings correct, since the centrifugal advance starts around ~700RPM, although one could safely time it at max advance the way one would handle most other distributors.

The 010 is the most common with a Okrasa kit.

I've got vjr4br8 (~019), vjr4br25 (~010) and vjur4br8. The Zv/jcu 4r3 is in very good ocular condition (currently unrestored) and by the looks of it it can't have many working hours on it. I don't really have any use of it or the small collection of nos Bosch caps for it, but if it's not a totaly stupid idea I keep it for testning when my engine is ready.

The engine will consist of a low hour (80h) 36hp industrial engine block and a ww Okrasa kit.

The BR25/010, BR8/019 or the 4R3 distributor would all work well, depending on how the car drives you may like the 010 a bit better for the steeper more "sporty" advance curve, but the 4R3 dizzy would probably net you slightly better manners and (possibly) MPG, depending on your driving style. My vote is try both 010 and 4R3 and see what you and the car like best, and go from there.
