Can anyone advise me to the best place to take my VW Thing to add an oil filter in the Boise Idaho area?

I used the pump-filter setup being sold by CB Performance. Easy enough to do yourself. You need to make sure you are getting the correct pump to match you cam, which will mean you have to remove the old pump before ordering the new, or you could order both styles of pump and return the one you don't need. I had to clearance something because of the different shape of the cover but don't remember what it was at this point in time.

If you go this route the rear member of the stock skid plate will need some modification to be refitted.

X2 on the CB performance pump-filter, I really like mine. It's an inexpensive straightforward way to add a filter, any VW shop should be able to do it for you. I don't know them, but a quick google search yielded this place near Boise.

www.allansvw.com

I'm sure there are others.

Those filters require clearance between oil pump and exhaust, so make sure you have room. See if you can pass a oil filter between oil pump and muffler.. I hope what I’m saying makes sense. Don’t have my car here to post pictures of what I mean. For best filtering full flow case, but that is a lot more involved $$$
