Interesting that the bus has headlight surrounds typical of Brazilian buses.

They look normal German style to me when I view it full size?

Yep. My bad. Should have looked closer.

15 window press bumper radio bus. The Bus is sitting on Chene St in Detroit promoting a Polish radio program. This area was a predominantly polish neighborhood.

Isn't the mirror unusually long armed? What's the thing that looks like a heater and the lever in its face?

The mirror is probably some random aftermarket mirror since it's a Kombi that came with no mirror.
Theory #1 - probably correct Smile

I thought the heater/lever was either part of the radio or maybe some sort of shortwave dispatch radio but I don't see a handset in the photos.
Theory #2...

I'm wondering what's in that box on the parcel tray too

It does look like a heat-sink for sideband AM. Maybe the mike is what is hanging off the key fob.
I zoomed in and it could be a #00 battery cable with boot over the terminal so I'm gonna say it's an electric ni-chrome wire ceramic heater.

The driver had a newborn. My guess was Kleenex. I wonder if the distance from the dash lowest to the top of the parcel tray was made just for that fit.

No big thing: Handelsgold are the best known cigars in Germany.

From another thread:
I can't tell if this is vintage or a more modern photo of a slightly lowered Bus:

I wonder why the gas door paint though.
