Finally got around to unpacking everything and put on display. So far the inventory shows 184 on cards in bubble. 328 loose Matchbox, Hot Wheels, etc. in the small showcases. Have yet to count the upright showcases. I'll let you all know ! This represents about 40 years of flea markets, shows and sales.

Dang Helmut, you have some great stuff. I'm originally from Western New York, and I chased after one of those Jim Kelly's cardboard vans for years, but never found one. PM me if it's something you'd ever consider cutting loose of.

We've been collecting about the same length of time, so we may have been competing with each other and didn't know it. Back in the day my friends and I used to hit the Toledo, Toronto and Rochester toy shows.

Most of it came from Buffalo area. I can't let go of cardboard Bus. I worked there ! First job out of HS 11/74 to 1/77. Then at short lived Somogyi VW formerly Butler on Main St. Just in time for Blizzard of '77. I might be inclined to trade something "Bus" related for one of the six (of 10) packs of matches that came with it . Another gem of mine is the "Security Blanket" bought at flea market for $10, the guy was more concerned about the speakers he had them wrapped in .

Here's a question. What is the black Super Beetle with the red, yellow and orange stripes sitting on top of the green van model? It has a great '70s vibe to it.

Good Call, I took a closer look. It is a Model kit ,no markings for manufacturer, however the rear license plate says Quebeck '74 .

This is what came to mind when I saw the bug. Although there was no bug in the show painted like that.

My eagle eye is telling me it's a Bandai. If it is right hand drive, has working steering and front suspension, and has opening doors, hood and decklid, then I'm probably right. It was probably originally molded in orange too. If so, someone did a pretty great paintjob. Is it as nice close up as it looks from a distance?

Good "eagle eye" Has everything you said, but molded in black. Stripes are hand painted, matching pillows in back seat. Wood bumpers and running boards. Nice detail.

It looks to be a variation of the Bandai. There were some odd offshoots of Japanese model kits, some of which were only available in Japan. There were also kits that might have made it to Canada but not the U.S. I've come across a few in my travels.

This may be a special version, one that's been customized, or a little of both. I definitely dig those wooden running boards!

That's okay, we forgive you!

Here's a photo of the Bandai in my collection, still the way I built it over 40 years ago!

I've thought of doing a fresh pro-built version, and have one new in the box, but there's something about still having the one you built as a kid ...

Those colours always make me think of the home team from the 80s. Ugh.

My latest additions are Taiyo's Giant Killer as "bump and go" and with Remote Control. I also have the Empi Love Bug as "bump and go" in my collection.

Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

Does anyone know if the Empi Love Bug was also available with a Remote Control?

Hello all! I hope you're doing well.
I had a question I'd hoped you'd be able to help me out with.
Growing up, I had a videotape of this Disney film from the late 60's/early 70's called, "Dad, Can I Borrow The Car?"
If you've never seen it, it's pretty good. It's from the point of view of this "car kid" as he's growing up, and there is some footage of a nursery. In the footage, kids are playing with this red VW toy, and I have no idea who might have made it; it looks like a soft vinyl/plastic, with chrome headlights and hubcaps. I've searched "soft VW toy" for years, but I've never seen anything like it.
Do any of you know who may have made this, or where I might look for it?
Thank you!

I'll beat Hacksaw BoB to the punch here.

It's a Steha oval window. Here's the link to the VW toys and models site:

https://www.vintagevolkswagenmodels.com/oval-window-toys-ow/item/285-steha-oval-vw-v2

I have one in my collection, but it's gradually dried out and flattened over the years, and is starting to look like a pancake. The one pictured on the site has the same issue. Over time, the suspension gradually gets slammed!
