I have one of the small house batteries that Van-Cafe sells.

I am wondering whether to mount it with the terminals facing forwards or rearwards.

Any thoughts?

it can go either way but I'm not clear on which might be safer and less likely to short out.

If you have swivel seats then forward. Use the welded nut on the seat base to attach a battery hold down that keeps the battery in place and the terminals away from any potential contact with the vehicle.

Yes, my Westy has swivel seats - but why forward?

if forward, the seat might back over them

ir rearward, they are closer to the hinged (low) end of the top plate....

I fabbed a plastic cover for my Volvo battery that mounts under the rear deck. That might make you more comfortable with the underseat mount?

The bolted mount holds the battery securely and keeps the posts from touching the vehicle. You can put a non-conductive cover over the top of the battery to prevent the hinged lid from touching the positive post.
