I am trying to do some research and I am hoping to collect some pics of early engines as in pre 1940 please. I have this distributor:

cap, rotor and condenser fit, but are not original to the distributor in this pic.

It is a Lavalette/Bosch distributor date stamped September 1937 (9S). Below are some pics of a similar if not the same distributor on type 38:

The story that I got when I acquired this distributor was that the previous owner's grandfather told him that this came off of an "early" VW. So I am looking for pics of 1938-40 engines that might have a different/better angle for the distributor, please. I've read extensively through the many topics here but there is a lot of documentation and I'm hoping to focus a bit more and pick the brains and albums/books of the wider community, please.

The badge and the oil tap are facing towards the fan shroud in the above period pics.

Interesting that these last two images have a cap on the engine that looks A LOT like the Garbe Lahmeyer caps that can still be found today.

The cap used that looks like a GL was accually a bosch ZVS36/4. This style was used on alot of pre-war distributors as well as after. They fit the same and used the same rotor (ZVT23/3) as the flat cap. In the 50's it was replaced/ changed name to ZVS74Z3 (rotor ZVT53Z1). This cap was used porsche 356 carerra.

Compared to the flat cap. Also VE 6.. (6 cyl mercedes etc) used this style of cap (ZVS37/4). (The flat cap is a bremi brand and the 6cyl a dowal brand)
