I had an original dealer installed Formula Vee shifter on my 74 Thing (that I sold a few years ago). The attached photo shows the plastic ring around the Wolfsburg Crest. It was on the shifter which had Formula Vee engraved on the side of it-

I am trying to replicate this knob. I now have the same shifter and it does have the same plastic 'ring' at outer edge but the center is missing.

Now matter how hard I have looked, I can't seem locate an insert or even a knob like this one in the picture.

All the ones I see on here do not have the plastic ring around outer edge, and the crest also looks a little 'recessed' below the knob's surface, instead of flush with it.

Anyone know the reason behind these differences? And where I can locate the flush kind of insert or a whole new knob? Thanks

The insert looks like the one on my mother's 71 Super Beetle, which I learned to drive on. Unfortunately, my brother totalled that car 30 years ago, so I can't go out and check if the insert is exactly the same.

Thanks for the replies.

I'm finding out how hard it is, sadly! I like the feel of it better than the ones with the recessed center. I'm not too concerned about the semi ratty leather on knob, but the chipped plastic ring with nothing inside definitely needs to be prettied-up

Anyone interested in selling, let me know.
