These are the only pics I have of the car. IM told she wont drive the 2 hours back to my house. I see some dings in the fenders. Interior is dirty. The seller wants 9000. Im curious what you type3 experts think with limited information? I think I may show up with $7000 in crispy 100's and see if he bites. I just want some opinion of what the car may be worth in its current condition please.

I wouldn't consider the purchase of a car off of these two photos - especially a car that's 50 years old.

I wouldn't consider that either....I would have to see it. That wasn't the question though. The question was what do you think the value is based on the limited information and pics that I have?

+1

And the dual exhausts hint that it probably has a Bug engine in it.

I wouldn't even bother to hazard a guess off those two pictures. Why? Because you can't see 95% of the car - all the areas where rust takes over, condition of wiring, the original ignition column, interior, engine condition (does it run?), etc.

It can look like a $10k car in pictures and be a $2k car in reality...a lot of which you can weed out with more photos if you know what to look for.

I've purchased over 20 of these cars since I got into this scene way back. I've driven 400 miles with a trailer to pick up a car - only to turn around and haul an empty trailer 400 miles back because the seller didn't disclose something that I also didn't ask about. It's easy to get caught up in the excitement and forget to ask questions.

One of my last purchases was a 65 Variant S - looked pretty good in photos - bought it without touching it (one of my personal rules) and a few weeks later, I was parting it out because the rear had been hit so hard that the rear cargo floor was warped, the walls were warped...but the rear fenders fit fine and the car looked straight. The only clue I could have had before I started pulling the panels off? The rear fenders were tack welded at the top mounting screws to the body. Something I couldn't have seen without pulling back on the rear hatch seal.

I would need more pictures before I'd bother looking at it or trying to derive a value from such limited information...because it's a guess.

Thank you.I asked teh owner for more pics and got 2 half-assed interior pics.I have a little VW experience..enough to know that I have to see and examine the car first. Im told runs but not well and doesn't smoke. Im also told that there is no major body work bit there are clearly dings and such. I didn't notice the dual exhaust which someone pointed out is indicative of a bug motor. I really dont know the value of a Notchback even in good condition so i was just kind of fishing for opinion. I'll likely hang on to my money but I am very curious to take a look.

That car is listed for sale in the city I live in. I'd be willing to take a look at it and give you my honest opinion. I have pretty decent knowledge of type 3's.
