Hi all,
Been running dual 44idf webers and after doing the math it averages 10.6 miles per gallon. Mains are 200 and I think the idle jets are 140 and the motor is a stock 2.0l with excellent compression. Is this normal or can this be improved? Thanks in advance. |

To get that kind of mileage, I would think the engine would barely run and stink to high heaven. |

I run IDF40s on my T1 2175. I get a solid 16.5 in town (with warm ups) and a solid 21.5 on the highway. At first I was only getting 15 on the highway until I changed out some of the jets. It took thousands miles of testing for me to find the right combo for me.
Stock
200 air correction
130 Main.
55 idle.
50 pump.
My combo
210
120
55
50
Good luck! _________________ __________

I’ve never run 44s but run exactly the same set up as Rich but on a t4 and that’s what I would think about your set up.....Rich.
I too spent many, many miles on my setup even with a wide band.
Those aren’t jets, they’re toilets. _________________ '65 Beetle "Lil' Lulu"- Ruby Red

Damn, Colin's 1974 450SEL gets better than that.

Are you sure you don't have a hole in the bottom of your gas tank? _________________ 1965 Volkswagen 1500 Variant S

Thanks for the replies. My gut feeling was the jets are too big too. I bought the carbs used but have no idea what vehicle they were set up for. I've removed the tank and cleaned it out so I know that's not the issue and the odometer is good too. Actually the one pair of jets are 145s not 140s. It runs but can't really get it to smooth out and stay there. Also it lags off idle and pops/backfires most times on decel. Thx again |

you should invest in an air to fuel meter. Cheaper than paying for the gas, and you can get it right instead of spending months guessing. _________________ “Most people don’t know what they’re doing, and a lot of them are really good at it.” - George Carlin |

Like SG says, buy or rent an innovate lm-1 or lm-2 and a range of jets and start tuning.... John at Aircooled.net has some good tips on his site and I believe he carries jets and also rents wideband air/fuel meters. _________________ If you haven't bled on them, you haven't worked on them.
