I am replacing my fuel tank. When I pulled the old tank out I was looking at the plumbing between the master cylinder and the brake reservoir. Should there be 4 pieces of hard line and 6 soft lines in that plumbing? It doesn't look right to me.
.
Does anyone have a picture of theirs?

Has anyone replaced the stock reservoir with the one that goes directly on the master cylinder? I saw this while ordering parts and was considering going this route.

Found this picture.

I too am curious about a relocating the reservoir. Been wanting to bleed my recently rebuilt brakes to see how things work... But have to paint the car first.

Which grommets did you use Darrel? The reservoir is for 67 on... But the grommets are for 72-74??

I think these are the ones. They are linked in CIP's description.

Edit.
Yeah I see what you mean.... When I did it these were not available new, I have an old Volvo reservoir. I'm pretty sure 68-74 use same M/C and reservoir so you should be good with the above grommet.

And.... They are out of stock. 80% of my wish list is. So frustrating with CIP1.

It does use the Volvo reservoir, I have one also.

@ ciderguy.
Correct, mine was actually scavenged from a real Volvo in wrecking yard. Smile

Thanks!! Pictures of both options. Mine looks just like the top picture so I guess it is correct. It didn't look right to me. It looks a little cobbled together to me. I like the idea of the direct reservoir and I might try that.

But who wants to remove the tire to fill it?

I’m doing a full brake job on my 1974 over the thanksgiving break. EIS had everything in stock, even the MC with reservoir attached. Arrived a few days ago.

Are you using a proportioning valve, what type if you using a double master cylinder ?

I don’t believe I need one with my stock setup of front disc rear drum on 1974.
My issue at present is a dragging backing plate on the driver front and I’m one more try away from just leaving it off. I also found out that is one of the places on the car that uses the rare M7 bolt.

I doubt the reservoir in that location will accessible at all, even with the tire off. You want be able to see if fluid is in it, nor be able to get something in there to fill it. Doesnt make sense to me

What you do is run a tube from that reservoir up to a location behind the radio
where you have a second res mounted. Laughing

That's my Volvo reservoir on the M/C above. I have about 4 years and over 6000 miles on the car. My brakes work great. Smile
About 3-4 months ago I took wheels off to clean the rims...
I took the opportunity to check brake fluid level. It didn't even need to be topped off, still full. Don't not do this mod because of worry about hard to reach/fill....
If you have leaking wheel or master cylinder...you will need to check it more often Crying or Very sad
No proportioning valve needed on later ghias that already have disk in front.
