Interesting '67 body '65 pan car at auction on BAT. Ends in three days as I write.

It has some good points and some qualifiers, good sounding high-tech engine despite the chrome.

Not a top of market car, but somewhere in the middle, maybe. Will be interesting to see what it sells for.

Clean car.
I wouldn't pay more than $6500 for it.
At that price point you're getting into some nice original ones.

Must have had major body damage to put a '67 body on a '65 chassis... and sink that kind on money into it.

Say, what's with that VIN stamped into the plate in the trunk? If it were a true '65, it'd start with 115 and have a total of 9 digits. That one has 7 digits, and per theSamba tech section would make it a June '63 build...

Even if that is a smudge to the left of the leftmost "5" which would cover another number such as a 1, that'd give it 8 digits. Confused

But if the body is from a '67, they moved the VIN tag form the '65 to this body.
Most states won't know or care, but it's not a "real" '67 so it's value is diminished.

...until the officials notice the VIN on the trans tunnel and plate don't match. That will get interesting

OK, I see the two raised 1's now. I was looking at the black sections between them, overlooking the 1's. An optical illusion. 9 digits total- all's well.

65 tag, but 66-67 beam and 67 body. I wouldn't touch it, but I'm always worried about re-sale down the road

no shit, never would have thought it'd get that high

I'm about the farthest you can get from a 'numbers-matching' purist, but there's just too many red flags in a conglomeration like that

perhaps the Beetle bubble is growing that much bigger, that much faster?
