Wish me luck fellas! I'm getting married this Saturday.

This thread made me laugh a lot. We have been together for quite some time and living together for almost 2 years now, so I can already relate to a lot of these things.

I'm always happy when it's the time of the year when we can have the windows and doors open with no forced air.

We do open the windows some - particularly fall and spring. But to leave a window open all night, all day until I close it drives me nuts when during the summer the air conditioning is running full blast or during the winter when it's cold outside. I don't mind cracking it open but she never closes it. So I just go around closing windows without saying a word (because I've already said it in the past).

We always have at least one window cracked, especially in winter. Helps the woodstove draw, and keeps some fresh air coming into the house.

January 3rd through the 4th?

I'm not 100% sure but I think the heat is on at that time.
It can be freezing in January during our 1-2 weeks of Winter Wink

I think my in-laws in your area do that too, their wood stove is insane and they sometimes have to open the front door to cool the house down.

Back to washers, those new ones don't work very well or it's just mine. Soiled clothes never come out clean. There is no way to soak such as lifting the lid and letting them sit. The dam washer drains away the water automatically. My next one will be the regular kind from 20 years ago, if I can find one.

Yeah, we've run into that too. My wife hates her new GE that we bought 4 years ago to replace the GE that the motor died in (bought it in 2006). What she really hates about the new one is that she can't wash blankets like she could with the old one, or having to do smaller loads in it. The new machine just seems so cheap compared to the old one. And the thing was the newer machines we were looking at didn't seem any better and were all the drum type (versus the agitator type like the 1 we got). At this point I'm kind of glad I didn't pitch the old machine away, as I thought I'd probably get a new motor for it (it was 2/3rds the cost of the new machine), and put it back in service. At the time, the washer/drier service shop said it would be 2 weeks before the motor would come in. Well it being the middle of summer, we weren't going to wait that long to have clean clothes, so we bought the new one.

Talking with some of the people at Menard's, Home Depot, and Lowe's, you get the impression that NOBODY is making anything worth a crap, and IF you get any life out of it (like 10 or more years) you're doing good and you're on borrowed time. Shocked

And yes, I do kind of understand where some of these things are coming from. However my wife appears to be more like Tram's in that she's all for saving a buck, will do some research before buying it (even looking to get a better price) and just doesn't like to spend money. Shocked We've been married 35 years now, and I still love her.

I bought a few Maytag coin op gas dryers at an auction years ago, aside from a few bearings and belts that are cheap and easily changed I can't complain, and I have a couple spares just in case. I jacked up the coin op part so it worked for free, but I may reactivate that feature to help give the kids the message that it's time to move out soon Razz

Our washer is a harvest gold Kenmore roadside find that had choked on a sock, 20 years later it still soldiers on aside from the odd broken wire where they vibrate or flex, clip the end off and crimp on a new terminal and it's ready for more abuse. The brake to stop the drum when you open the lid died years ago, luckily my family has enough common sense to keep thier arm out until it stops Wink

I gave up on the fancy Jennair stove a few years ago, constant electronic issues. Picked up a Garland commercial restaurant range on CL that had just been serviced for a smoking deal, had to modify the cabinets a little but now I boil water in a couple minutes and it stays boiling when I dump in the pasta, there's no replacement for displacement (or BTU's in this case). And it works when the power's out too.

Our 18 year old fridge is the next to go, I'm getting sick of replacing $50 defrost thermostats every 2.5-3 years, likely going to be a commercial glass door cooler that replaces it, keeps the cool inside while the teenager stands there and ponders, and restaurant equipment auctions are fun.

The dishwasher is also becoming a pain, there's only so many times I can bush out the holes for the spinners before I run out of material. Unfortunately our local goverment stopped the yearly roadside recycle weekends so finding a donor isn't so easy now.

I refuse to buy new if I don't have to, my wife knew that when she met me and she is of a similar mindset anyways, we splurged on a new house addition and reno 18 years ago and so far every new major appliance has given us grief far sooner than the stuff that's older and simpler, lesson learned.

Looking back to OP Cuss was talking about her closing door on things that don’t fit. How many of you have seen a real metal lined wooden ice box?
Perhaps this is the answer nothing to break or wear out. The door latch closed, no way to leave it open. Very Happy

No, this thread is not about Mrs. Cusser specifically, but how so many wives have these same "endearing traits" in common, why most married guys would understand such actions.

Mrs. Cusser has a ton of good qualities

Mr. Cusser is right on, {(but how so many wives have these same "endearing traits" in common, why most married guys would understand such actions)} Having met in person Mrs. Cusser she does have fine qualities.
Some things are better than good, and these are the things that should command priority attention in our lives.

Yeah, and Mrs. Cusser will be happier when she returns from Tucson this afternoon if I get my butt outside and get the outside front of the house painted this morning !!!
