The rocker on my headlight switch wont budge anymore, has anyone had this happen to them before, and how did you loosen it.

the later super rocker switches can be over depressed and that knocks the rocker portion off the pivot point pins, you may be able to grip the rocker and pull it outwards, if it appears to be pushed in to far. there is a chance the pin(s) broke. you may need to pry the switch out to repair. else its toast.

You wouldn't want to "pry the switch out". On the 1303, the switch is held into the dash plate by two tabs--above and below. You must first remove the dash plate, by carefully prying up the small side plates and removing the two screws on either side, as well as one screw in the center of the plate. Then walk the dash plate out until you can get to the light switch. Depress the two tabs on the top and bottom of the switch and withdraw it from behind the plate (it can't be removed from the front).
If the switch can't be repaired, used ones are available in the Samba Classifieds, or you can buy them new.

I had already had the facia off and the switch assembly was loose, with wires attached. Have managed to separate the switch, one of the brass pieces which slide together with the contact had come loose, don't know how. Can't get it back together easily though. Any thoughts? |

Yes, you maybe able to reassemble it, it snaps together, if plastic is broken and wont stay together, try glue, maybe crazy glue, epoxy or such. Hold the switch together with rubber bands while curing. clean up all the metal contacts inside prior to reassembly.
Now why did it come apart? damage from getting wacked, or over heating causing warp of plastic are two possible causes. if signs of heat damage, heat darkened connectors then that need be addressed. if not already on a relay circuit, consider adding that to the lights, that can save the switch. make sure the wire connections to the connector (ie the crimp) is still tight, wires not corroded. and still has spring left in the jaws, the spring heat treatment is lost if the connector over heats, then it becomes looser, creating even more heat, etc... making sure the wires, the wire connectors, the switch internals, are all clean, and perfectly connected will reduce heating at the switch. even a wanky wire crimp on one of the headlight wires from the switch can heat up, conduct heat thru the switches terminal prong, and via that over heat the contact, thus damaging the swswitch
So make SURE all the connections and wire crimps are good at the switch, run the headlights for a while and feel the back of switch, feel each terminal, and wire at the crimp for excess heat, if it gets too hot to the touch, it is a failure waiting to happen.
Good Luck, Now clean and inspect the switch, wires and connectors, put the switch back together, use glue if need be, but dont over do it, incase you ever want to pull it apart again. a little can go a long way. Suggest you test your repair electrically prior to final gluing it together, if you end up going that way.

Took it apart again as rocker still stuck, opened it up and lost one of the very
small springs.🙁, so stuck now without getting a spare from somewhere. |
