More progress this weekend. I also purchased a portable heater so I'll be able to extend my working time in the garage. I got the last of the braces in for the rear shock mounts and dash bar. Drilled the mounting holes for the transaxle mounts. Finally got the shifter working as smooth as silk. You REALLY have to watch the angles when installing the side shift adapter. I also got the relocated front shock mounts figured out. Not an elegant solution but it works and on this car, function all I worry about. All that is left is some final welding. Adding a couple of helmet retention bars on the upper cage, a skid plate to the very top of the cage to prevent the bars from digging in is something should ever happen and then it's time to skin this cat and figure out some routing for hydraulics and wiring.
Rear shock tower braces. There are also gussets at the base.
Dash bars, relocated battery, and shock mounts
Shock tower brace and clutch slave mount
Snaking the shift rod through the cage and tacked in place.

Have you considered a NASCAR style seat with the head supports that wrap around the sides of the helmet? I know when I drag race my Dunebuggy at 100 MPH I have to hold my head against the padded back rest to keep my head from whipping around. Keeping my helmet solid in the airstream make a difference in the consistency of my ET's. I'm not required to wear a Hans devise for my speeds. Is it required for your class?
What MPH goals do you have for your Buggy? _________________ 2017 Street Comp Champion - Thunder Valley Raceway Park - Noble, OK

Yes, I have a friend who is a wiz at aluminum fabrication and we will be building a helmet support for the seat. In 2012, my helmet started shaking so bad I couldn't see the markers until I grabbed by chin bar with my right hand, that was on my 121mph run when I reset the record. I am also looking at helmet restraint systems like a HANS device, it isn't required, but I'd rather have it and not need it, than the other way around.
This year I am shooting for 150mph but will be happy with anything close to 140mph. I'd also like to get my 130mph Club hat for reaching 130mph in the mile.

Worked on the dash today. Used some 3/16" glastic that we use at work for insulation on high voltage projects. Gauges are NOS VDO Jet Cockpit, oil pressure and temp, cylinder head temp and 10,000 rpm CarbonFibre series Autometer tach. The blue and yellow lights above the steering shaft are indicator for 3rd and 4th gear that will be turned on by micro=switches on the shift linkage and the toggle switches are for fuel, ignition and master on/ start. On the forward dash bar braces will be mounted the Autometer shift, Oil and Gen. warning lights.

Just some thoughts.
I think you should spend a little more time and rethink your dash. I believe I would extend the fiberglass hood to be flush with the dash or maybe 1-2" past. I would also aim the shift light to be in your direct eyesight. I would use huge oil pressure and Alt. idiot lights. You will need to fabricate some sort of windshield or windscreen 3-4" high above the dashboard hood level to direct airflow over your helmet. Maybe lower the steering wheel. Your hands and steering wheel should be completely out of the Windstream. May need to lower the shifter too. _________________ 2017 Street Comp Champion - Thunder Valley Raceway Park - Noble, OK

I also picked a 5 gallon pail full of wheel weights to melt down for ballast in the front end.

Don't look like you need no ballast added
looking good Brad.
we had to add lead to the frame of the 109 after seeing a video of the front lifting at 150 MPH and the driver didn't realize it _________________ Rick

Thanks for the ideas Dave.
Yes the body work will extend even further than you suggest. It will come almost to the front bars on the cage and there will be a raised section over my hands and steering wheel that will also deflect some air . I have Autometer warning lamps that are very bright and directional. I'll mount those in line of site and the shift light will be fine where it is, I've had it mounted down low out of the airflow before an I have always noticed it in my periphery.
I set it about 300rpm early and use the tach to shift. I shift pretty lazy compared to you drag race guys so it's not imparitive that I shift as soon as the light is on. The shifter is just a stand in to get the linkage set up. The one I'm building will only bee about 6" tall. I actually can't get first gear with the one in there now as it hits the tach.
Yes Rick , I know it looks like I'll load the car down pretty good, but I'm on a mission to shed some of the pounds. Between badly crushing my left leg and then tearing my MCL in my left knee a year later keeping active has been a real problem I'm trying to make your job getting me belted in as easy as possible LOL. I'm even buying pull up belts this time around.
As far as ballast. I added a bunch of lead in the front tubes of the orange buggy when I rebuilt it and if I can make this one as stable as that one is I'll be really happy. That thing was hooked up.

Made a new dash with a bit different layout and moved the gear indicator lights for a bit better visibility. Today is was half decent out so I built a fire in the firepit and smelted down about a hundred pounds of lead and filled some of the front tubes in the chassis. Also started fabbing up the body mounts for the fiberglass part of the body.

Cutting out templates to make the fiberglass panels from. I'll be using glastic panels from work and then reinforcing them with wood and 'glass cloth underneath. The rear fenders are going to be reworked a lot also.

Rolled the car over to the garage door to get a better shot without all the clutter in the background. I love the look of bare chassis before they get covered up with 'glass and aluminum, always so much potential and possibilities. I wonder if my friends glass 356 Carrera coupe body will fit on this LOL

Love your engine Brent. One day I'll have a 911 shroud in the back of something. Probably the Bounty Hunter. I'm working on the engine right now as its too cold in the garage but the current mods should get me another 30hp.Big changes to compression, cam, and carburation. The heads are ready for machining and then I can figure out the valve pockets. Ive torn the engine right down to inspect everything and it all looks like new. Going to do a bit more work in the case for oiling and then put it back together.

Man, this has been an expensive week. I bought my fire suppression system from Fire System Research, my transaxle from Vallis Motorsports, and a couple of engine goodies I've wanted for a while Thorsten Pieper lifters and some Wiseco light weight wrist pins.
